So some cannot travel into the adjoining municipality and are prevented from using Mercadona. At this stage (speaking as one who has been limited in travelling within 5 kms from our home) I've come to the conclusion that Spain has as much Moaning Minnies as Ireland. Covid-19 will eventually be beaten by people obeying restrictions. Every country will have to take the Restrictions hit. There is no other way. Duh! sorry DUH!

Let me give a good example of how one country got the situation W R O N G. In November 2020 the infection rate in RoI was around 50 max per day and the death toll was one or two every few days. Irish people were largely obeying restrictions etc. On 1st December the government under pressure from the commercial sector lifted restrictions from Level 5 to Level 3 even ignoring Level 4. Three weeks later our infection rate rose to 8,500 or thereabouts per day and our death rate spiralled to around 100 per day. We were informed of the South African and UK variants which were 90% more infectious and although in the country since September we were not informed of their presence until mid December. Talk about getting the situation wrong. We allowed people to travel to the Canary Islands/Spain/Portugal/Dubai and anywhere else.

With restrictions being re-imposed from 26th December our current daily infection rate is at 700+ but our daily death toll is between 50 and 90. Our hospitals are still in Surge Capacity and our nursing staff are stressed physically and mentally. And this is in a country where Covid-19 was on the verge of being beaten before our government decided to ignore advice from its medical advisors.

So you can't get to Mercadona or whatever or enjoy the Mediterranean sunset/sunrise or drive for some unmeaningful conversation somewhere etc - My heart goes out to you. But like Svein and Dario and some others in previous posts I'm prepared not to risk the lives of others and our own life.  Use your head and that "thing" between your ears and Stay Safe and Consider the safety of others.

No app - just go to https://www.mapacovid.es/ on your phones browser - don’t allow the browser to translate or it messes up the ability to find the municipality

Don't take my post so serio1257usly!  Grumbling is not what I am doing.  I don't need lectures on this forum but a sympathetic ear with a sense of humour  are things that one appreciates when you don't have people to talk to. I don't use bars or restaurants but I am on a state pension and local shops are expensive!

Entiendes?

Right Juanida, Let's allow everybody to travel as they wish and if they don't feel like it don't wear a mask either. And as for keeping 2metres distant, let's not do it. If you want to sneeze then sneeze with the power of a rocket and ensure as many as possible can be open to infection.

And when you're in Mercadona or wherever why not touch every tin, jar, plastic bag and vegetables. Sure your brand of Covid is better than anybody else's!

If you're looking for a sympathetic ear please note I don't do sympathy where other peoples well being is at stake. If you think this is unreasonable did you ever sympathise with the Yorkshire Ripper? And he killed only a fraction of what one person with Covid is capable of.

I said it before and I'll say it again:- I am not going to be polite where the health of others and mine is compromised.

Dia Sorbas has offers, and are not that expensive I've found. Less selection, but we manage. There is, as you know, also another supermarked in town.

And don't forget, driving from Sorbas to Mercadona Vera and back is likely 6-7 l petrol, 8-9 Euro? Money well spent supporting the local economy.....

More Bad News I regret to post:- The Brazilian strain of the Covid virus has been discovered in three people in Ireland yesterday. The public has been warned that this is an aggressive step up for the Covid virus and at this stage it is not known if the current vaccines have any effect on the strain. This is pretty bad news and the infection of only three people shows that most of its infections are unknown. [Cast your mind back to the South African variant where the British government admitted the virus was in the UK since September, but it took until mid December to make the matter known to the public].

I wouldn't bet that the Brazilian variant is not in Spain (or any other country in europe) at this stage. But, I reckon the situation is worth watching.

Point of Information:- In Ireland the government has advised that current restrictions will be in force until May, at least.

Summary:- I reckon there'll be no traffic jams in Mojacar Playa or people fighting for parking space in Mojacar Pueblo in 2021.

I’m pretty certain I recall a report that the Brazilian variant had been found in a couple of cases in Madrid - and Madrid is refusing to shut bars and restaurants due to the ongoing pissing contest with central government.  Madrid are also raising number of people allowed to gather and reducing curfew hours.

If Brazilian variant really IS in Madrid, then just as we are sort of getting on top of things here, the annual movement of Madrileños to coastal homes - irrespective of whether restrictions are in place - from Semana Santa onwards, will bring us right back to square one ...
