Hello

We are moving to the Almeria area once our house is sold. This we are hoping to achieve next year.

I am retired but not sure about health insurance whether it is needed for me, i have done some reading and not sure whether for the first year it is needed for me. My husband is not retired so will have no pension yet, he is considering self employment, will he need to have health insurance, also unsure about self employment rules. Can anyone help please.

Hi,

Can only suggest you contact

CAT SERVICES of La Alfoquia.

On Google Search.

They are a Service Agency & expediter but can advise & assist.

Best Wishes,

Hi  JoJo,

If you are moving to Spain you need to contact works and pensions you will then be issued a S1 form to register for health in Spain you may also be able to have your partner put on the reverse of the S1.You must get advice for your partner if going self employed and its not cheap either, I also believe you have to pay into the system  a lot of money and you then can get health cover from Spain the alternate is go private.Hope this helps.

Just to add to above, most insurances you can't put in place till you have a spanish address and NIE No... I can give you prices on health insurance through Allianz but they won't contract you till you have these. ..

More info see my add on here or give me a quick email on [email protected]

We moved out to Albox area a few months ago, have property & NIE numbers...my husband is retired but I'm not. We called DWP in Newcastle several weeks ago & received our S1 forms just this week. We took them to our Spanish solicitor who advised, when we are eventually registered, I will be covered with my husband as we are a married couple (I'm not sure if this works the other way around with you being the retiree). We need to provide our marriage certificate & P60's for the current year as proofs of earnings/pensions & then sols can do all the paperwork for us to register. We have been told that registration can take some considerable time so are considering private insurance until then. DWP were very helpful so would def get their advice & from a Spanish solicitor if you have one or CATS as suggested above

If you register in huercal overa you will be issued with a temp card or paperwork which allows you to then register with the doctors your card plastic will then be posted to you,no need for private cover, however you need to make a appointment first.
