Yes,Sharon.
I haven't seen any post on here today that even mentions R. R is the rate a virus can spread. Most viruses die very quickly - two or three days.
Covid19 has been known to last for up to 9 days - couple that with a 5 day incubation period before symptoms can manifest themselves its almost impossible to know where it is and who has it ( some may have and not know ). If R climbs greater than one the infection rate increases. More people will be at risk of catching it. Someone mentioned that people die all the time. Yes, they do. 150,000 everyday worldwide. The current tally for Covid alone is I believe 500,000 in just 6 months. That has to be a warning to anyone. The fact that Brazil and the US have the highest mortality rates does not mean its not going to come back to Europe. Indeed it is already on the increase in Eastern Europe for a second time.
The potential risk for this virus to reappear is much greater than any other virus we have known.
People will always have different views about how we overcome it and how we ensure our own safety. I acknowledge that.
But what I beseech people to do, irrespective of which camp and view they hold, is to think of what YOU are doing.
Social distancing is here for the rest of our lives in some form or other. We have to get used to a new normality. Whether you agree with it or not it will happen. And its not designed to save your life - its designed to save the life of the person next to you.
To not socially distance as per any government guideline in any country is at best selfish and at worst irresponsible. Any person I know would be horrified if it was found that they had passed to Covid to another person and that person died.
Governments ( all ) may not always get it right but their decisions have your best interests at heart irrespective whether you think so or not.
Please put your differences aside. Look after yourselves obviously but also look after the person next to you. Whether it is your family or not is irrelevant.
There is going to be no easy fix for this even after a vaccine is found. It has taken decades to declare Smallpox and Polio eradicated but even now, after decades of immunisation, there are places where it can be contracted.
We have to work as one. You know what to do.
Stay safe.
