With regard to the policing, I think it is 'pants' 2 examples. whilst living in Valencia 4 woman(3 English 1 Dutch) were attacked and tried to be rape (he didn't succeed with any of them), all within  a 6 hours period. All 4 woman denounced him to the Garda, nothing was done, they showed all the woman a pic of the man for identification, as he was known to them. 6 weeks later still nothing done. The Garda said' and I quote ' This man does this all the time, he attacks woman, no point in arresting him he is the mayors nephew'.  I was one of the woman, my husband was enraged and made an appointment to see the mayor. who shrugged his shoulder and said, 'sorry, what can I do he is my nephew.

Example No. 2  Neighbours house was broken into he rang the Garda who refused to come, because apparently they only come out if blood is spilt.

Why I ask myself daily do I live in a country that has no respect for woman and is unlawful. Quite simply the sun. we came for 2 years, after having to leave Egypt quickly because of the uprising and now have been here 10, residents, pay my Spain taxes etc etc. abide by all their rules.  But say what you like about the UK, its the mother country, I feel safe there, I felt safer in Egypt than I do in Spain.

Have a nice day all  Jenni

Hi, is your mum retired?  If so, she can acquire her health care on an S1... I'm not sure but as a family, you and your daughter may qualify to as her dependents and also receive healthcare on the back of her S1?

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/healthcare-in-spain-including-the-balearic-and-canary-islands

You can telephone NHS Overseas Healthcare directly and ask the question? Would you and your daughter qualify as dependents, if your mum receives healthcare if she has an S1, remember she must be receiving  her state pension in the first instance, you will get an immediate answer.

NHS Overseas Healthcare Services
Telephone: +44 (0)191 218 1999
Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm
Saturday, 9am to 3pm

There is also a section on healthcare for students which may also help if you mum doesn't qualify for an S1, therefore meaning you won't either, it might help ease finances a wee bit.

The Gov.UK web site - Living in Spain is really helpful and informative and is from the "horses mouth" so to speak.  There are regular updates of which you can request to receive via email directly to you as they occur:

This is where my husband and I refer to and has helped us a lot to understand how to make the move... we pick up the keys to our villa on 30th September... don't let your dreams die until you have researched thoroughly... good luck with you and your families venture...🤞🤞🤞

Hope this is helpful to you, hate to think your dreams may have burst... 👍😊😊😊👍

Again very true . I retired at 60 and lived in mojacar only on rolling long term rentals and when my illness first appeared friends took me to medical centre who promptly sent me to huercal. Excellent care and treatment but not having much grasp of Spanish and didn’t want to keep bothering peop...

...le easiest option head Back to uk and my loving daughters . I’m 70 plus now and a widower . Regular check ups now with the brilliant Macmillan follow and all ok . My only real point is sometimes on this or any other forum sometimes it turns into an us or them and can get a bit personal . Not saying yours was ,mostly people are kind and helpful . Hope you continue to enjoy your life out their it is a lovely spot and this COVID can be resolved and I can visit more often without this quarantine, masks ,distancing . It’s awful not talking to a soul for days at a time . Back to the good old days with a hug and a dance

I agree things can get a bit out of hand l just get a bit upset when the nhs is taking to task thay make mistakes like every one but over all thay such a great job. Like you we hope to return to Spain its lovely country to live in most of the time.

If I recall, the original poster and her son and mother were wanting to move across post 31/12.  This of course means that much of what you have posted becomes invalid, as transferable health benefits (via S1) are no longer available after 31/12.

The other issue is of course obtaining the correct visas prior to moving, as Third Country Nationals have to apply to immigrate to Spain, they can’t just arrive as people do at the moment.  This means the OP and her son could not come in as dependents, and would require visas in their own right.  The OP would likely get a non-lucrative Visa but her son, who is 18 .... very unlikely.  Nor would he get a work visa.

A third issue is that the OP was wanting to work after she arrived and a non-lucrative visa does not give you the right to work in Spain - that requires a further application for a work permit and unless you have skills not found in Spain or are sponsored by an employer, you are very very very unlikely to obtain a work permit.

Those arriving post 31/12 have a long hard road ahead of them
