Have you tried a treat? Buy a 'kong' or similar toy, put some treats in it, leave the dog in an environment/room which the dog considers safe. Speak to the dog calmly, say you'll be back shortly (ie say something you believe in as dogs can pick up nuances,) leave the house for 10-20 mins. Do the same next day, but longer. Keep doing it till you have a couple hours free for shopping , beach trip etc.

The dog needs to know that you'll be back.

What odd comments by some members?

I was going to suggest a vibration collar, it is not a shock collar by any means

It gently vibrates against the throat as they bark, just put it on when you go out and take it off when you get back

Or try a spray collar which puffs into their face

Can get both off Amazon

My ol' hobby-horse complaining regarding bringing dogs (or any animals) onto the terrace of any bar/restaurant seems to be bearing some fruit. The establishment of which I have been mainly complaining about has added additional tables and chairs to the area where dogs used to be resting. In a previous thread I reminded of a dreadful attack by a German Shepherd/Alsatian on a young boy which looked pretty dangerous (to say the least).

The owner pointed out to me that (i) Any of the waiting staff who handled any animal while on duty would lead to instant dismissal (ii) No animals were being allowed on the terrace as the place had suffered because of Covid.

Unfortunately, the defecation of cats  and dogs still goes on in the Paseo (almost unchallenged as it is dangerous to complain to so-called animal lovers).

Just as an add-on the lady who is feeding the feral cats in our urbanisation is now complaining to me because of my two dogs patrolling within our terrace.  She feels her ferals are threatened Woooo Hooooo!

Hello everybody.
I have a rather big dog (Labrador mix) that is very friendly to people and other dogs. He likes to be outside, and I have a rather big garden, front and back of the house. When he is outside, he very seldom barks. At the back, there is a unhardened road, that stops behind my h...

...ouse. Now and then people walk there, and when they have a dog, mine barks, but that doesn't happen very often.
My house is in a hamlet, so no passing traffic.
So, now here is the problem. I have two neighbours, a Spanish family on one side, and an English couple to the other side. Last Saturday morning I was in town, and I got a WhatsApp message that my dog barked to much. At 11 in the morning mind you.! Guess from whom.... the Spanish family.
The English couple assured me that it was only minimal.
At night, the dog is always inside.
I don't want trouble with my neighbours, so I want to show them the a copy of the law about dogs, and ask to be a bit understanding.
I've heard somewhere that you can not keep a dog from barking, unless in the night hours. (I believe from 10PM). Anybody has a link to that law?
Since I want to live in peace with my neighbours I would show them that law, and ask for a little understanding.
Kind regards to everyone (from me an the dog)

Hi polowonder,

Have you ever thought of filming your dog with sound on? It may give you a much more accurate picture of what your dog is really doing. If you leave him outside when you’re not there, I would be careful. I’m told many dogs get stolen from properties when the owners are out. I’m sure he’s not barking much, only when he’s protecting your property.

So, your dogs are barking and annoying neighbours while you are away shopping or something. You're not hearing the barking. How dare your neighbours complain of being annoyed! But, of course, they must bear the brunt of your dogs barking and you don't.

Where I am and I suggest to dog owners to clean up after their dogs "perform"  along the Paseo, I am told "Why don't you return to the UK?" (although I live in Ireland)....

...

It's time for you to man-up and control your dogs.

If you joined forces with the "lady" who feeds the feral cats as far away from her apartment and right next to mine you could have an ally.

I wish pet owners would just own up to their responsibilities for a change.

Incidentally, I have two dogs and am in full control of them at all times. And I clean up after them.

And while I'm on a roll:- I commend the restaurant owners who do not allow animals onto their premises.

Pmsl...go Matthew, putting your head above the PARAPET again,.I again find myself agreeing with your post.think the spainish nabour next door has a cheek though over the years I've watched them with there animals, and they have a lot to learn from xpats.

Again our days are numbers in Spain,me and my wife are planning to sell our our front line apartment this year, in mojacar playa with car...just about had enough of the b.crap rule and regulations there throwing out at min since leaving the EU.. we would like to live/retire in a country that excepts us,and not abuses us as cash cows to p.ss us of and make life difficult for us.never mind the extra unnecessary expense.

And yes many will say BUT ITS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT,so why implement it now full force and more .

We're done.  Another xpat defecting to pastures new. Thank god I never intended to be a resident at such a tender age.

You're barking up the wrong tree Matthew. Your comments has nothing to do with the thread, and does nothing to help the hapless poster.

My mother used to say 'if you have nothing good to say, refrain from speaking'.

Matthew you had your last post taken down  because people complained about it (not me I do it to your face) it was taken down before I had a chance to answer your question as to  'Why I think your posts winds people up' here is my answer.

The poster of the original question asked 'if anyone knew the law regarding dog barking', instead of giving him a constructive answer or no answer at all, you gave him and the rest of us a lecture, the same lecture I might add that we have been hearing for that last 4 years, you have an obsession about anyone or anything that doesn't conform to your exacting standards. But instead of trying to give advice you lecture, and try and make people feel small and the need to justify themselves. This winds people up quite necessarily.

You dont even live here you come and visit and when you visit I would think the people in your area are split into 2 camps, the ones that stay well clear of you and the ones that are nice to your face but think you are a joke behind your back. and all of them must heave a sigh of relief when you go back to Ireland.

The lady that is feeding the feral cats is doing a good job I applaud her, she lives here, you dont, the cats keep the rats down and she is probably having them neutered, the ones she can catch, so you should help her, give her some money towards the food and the neutering after all she is keeping the rats away from your apartment.

Ho Roberto,  He has been blocked by admin in the past because he upset so many people, not sure why he was let back on, but there you go. Have a nice day.
