If you have an eu passpirt (irish)& buy a property and use it for a year or two to settle as a holiday home are you still subjected to the 90/180 days or can you stay as long as you want(not the full 365 says if that makes sense
If you have a EU PASSPORT,you can come and go as freely as you like.and stay as long as you like.

I think you will find you are wrong, you can only stay in Spain for six months then you are required to make yourself resident, this as always Been the case even before Brexit.

that is true John but so many other nationalities Belgium,German, French etc all live in Spain without registering as residents or paying their taxes here. They also drive on their country licences and with their cars on the other country plates until they caught like our Danish neighbour who crashed her French car and the GC told her get it registered! the strange thing was she told us it was still insured in her dead husbands name and the insurance company paid up!!!

Are they really getting it all for free? They still pay rates/bin charges/electricity and put money into the Spanish economy. They are just not paying income tax in Spain.

That’s the problem if you live here you should have an accountant we don’t earn a lot only have pensions but we pay over two grand plus accountant fees so yes I would say they are getting away with a lot I say if you live in a country you should pay into the sysem

From a personal point of view I have properties in two countries and my pension in Ireland is reduced significantly if I didn’t have Irish residency until I am 66 so to take Spanish residency would cost me about €10000 a year so it’s not a runner for me. I was looking at Portugal as they are offering a 10 year tax rate of 10% but it still wouldn’t make sense until I was 66 /67. As regards not paying my share I have just paid over €18000 in property tax
