Thank you its a mindfield as lived in UK all my life& feel i need a complete lifestyle change whuch i dont want to do in the UK😁

I am on a career break this year, I honestly think it's the best thing I could have done and I am hoping with all my heart that I will not need to go back to work!

Really trying to find a job atm so that I can stay but this part of the world requires you to speak fluent Spanish so who knows.

Hi Vera, when we looked at moving to Spain we spent a week in a cave house in Zujar during January.  My partner felt the cold but not as much as a house in winter as there was snow outside.  I just wore a jumper and we had a log burner for the evening.  We viewed many types of properties but went for a cave house near Baza (lots in that area).  It had a small swimming pool, a roof terrace, parking, kitchen/diner, 2 bathrooms, lounge and 5 bedrooms.  You do need some form of heating in the winter to take the chill off but not as bad as a house especially as most out here are un-insulated.  Cave houses can be high maintenance, many properties especially older houses are high maintenance out here.  Damp issues and flaking paint, leaking roof but mainly that's it.  We decided to split the property into two as bathrooms opposite ends of cave so we had a new large bedroom dug out and slightly extended another which would be a lounge, put in a basic kitchen and partitioned the cave into two with a sturdy door so could remain as one if we wished.  Takes a long long time for walls to dry suitably to render/paint.  We left before that happened and put it on the market last year.  I loved living there, it was on a private dead end road with two full time neighbours within 100 metres and two others that were holiday homes that were visited maybe twice a year by the owners from Barcelona.  It was at the edge of a village so 5/10 minutes walk and you were at a bar or supermarket.  We chose the location as the village had all the amenities such as bank, doctors, chemist etc. and would be ideal for holiday let while we lived in the other half.  Location is very important especially if alone or don't drive.  Good luck!

Hi Andy thank you so much for info especislly now knowing the cave houses can be high maintenance which i didnt really consider. Is having building work/maintenance work expensive??. As for heating i inderstand what your saying bit after the coldness in UK i giess we get use to cold. I really want a property with character but dont want to spend a fortune on upkeep(i know all properties need some maintenance). Its a difficult decision as will be my forever home. I need to take into account having amenities near by. 😁

Most jobs are quite cheap to get done in comparison with tradesmen in the UK.  We mostly used/use Spanish builders.  Prevention or keeping back damp bottoms to walls thus no flaky paint a lot of properties will tile about 4 foot up along the walls. Looks pretty too but not so easy to do in a cave but not impossible. If have the funds keep back 5/10,000 euros for these types of work as pretty much a one off.
