Don't bring it !! You will regret it in the end. You will always be RHD, a target for Spanish drivers and spares will be expensive, if not impossible is Spain. The matriculation process requires you to have an NIE which is also costly. A friend of mine paid 1500 to import and matriculate a C...

...orsa and the insurance for RHD is more expensive.

Sell it in the UK and buy here, otherwise a possibly bottomless pit...........

Good luck

:)

My NIE cost £8.50 and quick five minutes at Spanish Consulate in London - appointment and forms downloaded from internet in advance of appointment - it was very simple.

Getting a NIE isn't indeed that difficult, but than you still aren't a resident. That's when the trouble starts. And to get a car matriculated here in Spain you have to be a resident, so indeed, it isn't that simple.

Hi mrdavidlowe,

Too late, we are already here, having landed 4 months ago. We were going to change the car but paying more than we had planned on a property and 2nd hand cars are so expensive so going to keep ours. It's still in great nick with low miles so should last us a while, though it is RHD. Some friends ...

...of ours matriculated theirs some years ago and haven't encountered any problems. Think we'll give it a go.

Cheers, Tony

Tony it may not be too late to change it.

We drove here in May and I drove our 6 years old RHD UK car back in July and sold it, flew back here and then bought a Spanish car here recently.

Yes, it cost a few hundred to take it back and then fly back here but we were aware of the huge costs of matriculation and driving around Spain in a RHD vehicle just made no sense.

Good luck.

Hi Ossy,

Took the decision to sell and buy, RHD not really practical for over here and to matriculate would be money wasted that we would never recoup.

Cheers.
