Hi all,

Looking at getting our UK car matriculated, have sourced a place who will supply and fit the required headlight units at a reasonable cost.

As my Spanish is not up to much yet, I am after recommendations for the services of a Gestor who can take me through the process. Or if anyone has any advice on getting it done without a Gestor, it would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance.

Tony

In case it helps, Hispavan on the El Real Industrial Estate near Antas advertise regularly on Spectrum FM that they can do the matriculation for any make of car (not just vans). http://hispavan.com/index.php/en

Hi,

Rob is correct. There's also The Garage ('that's the name of the place) which is near the Bowling Alley in Arboleas. They also arrange matriculations. Really, really suggest you shop around as our friend paid over 2000€ for his aged Ford People Carrier. I will.contact him and see if he can talk you through the process.

Best Wishes,

Bob and Sandra

TonySam,

the company that we used is "The Garage", they work in conjunction with CAT Services (La Alfoquia), my ford S-Max 2007 is costing just under 1900 Euros to switch over, but that is me NOT doing anything to it personally, someone else is doing all the paperwork and mechanical matriculation.

That price includes -

Traffico

pre-ITV check

Ordering relevant parts and changing all lights over, 4 new tyres on and ensuring the car is identical to "BUILD SHEET"

ITV

ALL paperwork

Emissions Tax

Import.

The list goes on.

We had only been here a year when wanted to get this done to be legal on the roads, our grasp of the Spanish language and system is minuscule, so this early on I would rather have someone that knows what they are doing - do it. YES, I know its a lot of money, BUT it can also be a lot of time wasted trying to negotiate the system and work out who on the forums is just full of crap and who isn't.

Why would we want to get a right hand drive car matriculated to drive on Spanish roads, "better the devil you know" scenario I think, in hindsight, we would have been better getting a car over here, but then the resale value of a non matriculated right hand drive car here in Spain is pretty dismal. So we decided to keep it until its last gasp, its not that far of now....lol

With so many conflicting perspectives, we just wanted to have it done and have it done right.

Best of Luck

Don't bring it !! You will regret it in the end. You will always be RHD, a target for Spanish drivers and spares will be expensive, if not impossible is Spain. The matriculation process requires you to have an NIE which is also costly. A friend of mine paid 1500 to import and matriculate a Corsa and the insurance for RHD is more expensive.

Sell it in the UK and buy here, otherwise a possibly bottomless pit...........

Good luck

:)

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the info. You're one of two who have recommended The Garage at Arboleas. We're in the process of buying a place outside of Albox so this may be the best option.

Cheers, Tony

We were going to change the car but we're paying more for a place than we had planned and didn't realize how much 2nd hand cars cost over here.

Hi mrdavidlowe,

Too late, we are already here, having landed 4 months ago. We were going to change the car but paying more than we had planned on a property and 2nd hand cars are so expensive so going to keep ours. It's still in great nick with low miles so should last us a while, though it is RHD. Some friends of ours matriculated theirs some years ago and haven't encountered any problems. Think we'll give it a go.

Cheers, Tony

I drive a Honda Accord which I had matriculated 4 years ago and not regretted it. The costs depend on the vehicle model and headlights changing have to be factored in. I used an interpreter for translation, but apart from that went through the process. It was lengthy, but in the end was worth it as I still drive the car with no problems.

And still have a damn good car too!
