The bad weather has no doubt played a part in some shortage of produce like tomatoes. However if there is a shortage within the EU, where would you prefer to send your supplies? Within the EU or to Britain with all the additional paperwork. How long are we going to deny that Brexit is a disaster ...

...for the UK?

Deny nah!

As long a the Brexiters eat thier turnips to stay healthly and live a long life it will never be thier fault

Now in fairness its NOT all down to Brexit but there are deniers who are insisting it has NOTHING to do with Brexit which has i certainly not helped.

I just got a huge laugh out of the statement suggesting Brits take a page from the past and eat turnips instead, which grow more easily in the clammy British climate.

I thought that it highlights how out of touch the Tories can be and reminded me of 'let them eat cake'

You could say though that the turnips will add a whole new dimension to Britsh culinary scene Bacon lettuce turnip sandwich,  spaghetti and turnip sauce or Brexit Margherita pizza anyone?

Does not seem to be shortage in Spain certainly not limited to 2 tomatoes and 2cucumbers. They may have had bad weather but not enough to stop production completely and will obviously give priority to EU market as is a lot easier not to have to deal with all the paperwork, therefore BREXIT has affected supply!

I assumed that only soft over ripe tomatoes were used. Nice fresh ones would be hard and could cause injury

Yes REALLY THINK ABOUT IT Couple of tonnes of tomatoes to celebrate a tradition that  been going on for quite some time how awful the waste so dump on a tradition in a country where you are not a native

Image that when you think about

How much food is wasted in the UK annually?

The UK creates 9.52 million tonnes of food waste per year, according to the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

That food waste could fill 190 Royal Albert Halls, and weighs more than 112 million average British men – which far more people than live in the UK, let alone men.

This wasted food is disposed of during the manufacture process, by the retail and hospitality sectors, and by households all over the country.

The hospitality sector alone tosses £3.2 billion of food away each year, according to WRAP.

Households cause 70% of the UK’s food waste, throwing away 6.6 million tonnes of food, of which 4.5 million tonnes is edible.

That's far too much, especially at a time when 68.1% of UK households are worried that increasing energy prices means they won't be able to buy enough food, according to The Food Foundation.

Overall, 6.4 million tonnes of completely edible food is thrown away per year.

That food is enough to create an additional 10.5 billion meals, we’ve extrapolated from WRAP

what would a Spaniard say about the above data I wonder?

I would just like to point out that before Britain joined the EU the island of Guernsey had a thriving tomato export business.  Perhaps the older expats amongst you may remember the “Guernsey Tom”.  Subsidies for members of the Common Market, ie Spain and Holland caused the industry to collapse with high unemployment and much hardship in the island.

Don't like the reality
