We closed our account with Caixabank 2 years ago and only use Wise. No more monthly fees, good exchange rates, pensions paid in to Wise and all outgoings cash or bank transfers no problems ever.

Can you pay all your utility, energy etc bills with a Wise account? I have just opened a dual sterling/euro account and was looking at utilising this for all bills in Spain but have been told I need a Spanish bank account to do this.

Certain governmental / official direct debits will only accept a Spanish IBAN - to that end Revolut are changing their IBANs to Spanish IBANs for Spanish customers … that won’t help if you are based in England though.

Thanks Dario. I am based in England. Which utilities/taxes/energy etc need a Spanish IBAN?

Payments to Ayuntamiento and if I recall some of the water companies require Spanish IBANs - Codeur required one for one of my colleagues who was returning to England - they would not accept Wise or Revolut IBANs (I was with her to translate)
