Canaries.... can you help?

We bought two canaries about 2 months ago, not from the nicest place I must add. We have them in a large cage and they seem to be doing well, but one has developed a huge toe which looks really sore. They both eat and drink well and are very lively. I keep their cage very clean and only give them bottled water. Any advice what we can do to help care for them? Thanks
