Buying a trailer
I'll be needing to buy a trailer for my car at some point later this year. Should I buy in the UK (plenty of choice but Euro tunnel fees to consider) and drive it over or buy in spain?
Thoughts and experiences welcome. Mark

AFAIK trailers in Spain have their own registration number and ITV,if you were to bring a trailer over from the UK for permanent use in Spain then it would have to be matriculated
Dario will likely know more

This is quite true. Any foreign bought trailer has to be matriculated in Spain and you'll need the paperwork to present the specifications, or/and brochure. It's the same with caravans. We have s french trailer and that's how I know. We once bought a caravan from a Dutch man and we could never matriculate it because of not having the required paperwork

Thanks. I’ve found a bit more information out about trailers. Anything with a gross weight under 750kg doesn’t need to be registered, anything over does. The trailer I’m thinking of is less than a 100kg and bike is less than 200kg so I should be ok, but if anyone knows different, let me know.

All trailers even under 750 kg gross must have a log book and an initial ITV so buy in Spain and avoid the hassle of getting a UK trailer registered
Trailers under 750kg gross can be covered by your Spanish car insurance as long as you tell them first and they have the same registration plate as your Spanish car
Over 750 kg gross have to have their own red registration plate and be subject to regular ITV tests
Hope this helps

If you do buy a trailer in the UK please make sure that it comes with its European Certificate of Conformity and that the manufacturer is still in business otherwise you are dead in the water in trying to get it registered in Spain
This does not preclude buying a used trailer but the same ‘MUSTs’ apply and avoid anything with non standard modifications
It will fail the ITV

Look into the option of buying 1 in France or Belgium, they may be slightly cheaper I know they are for car trailers, also they will have a C0fC,and no added cost of transporting on ferry or tunnel

You can buy a trailer in France in Fuevert and other similar tyre and brake shops - take a look on line. Trailers are 'remor1ues' in France
