We came for three months in January.   We are not resident in Spain but have a house.  We have had four ferries cancelled on us since our original return date of March 26 th one after the other. We didn’t want to drive all the way up to Bilbao to have another cancel at the last minute and we wouldn’t be able to get back down till next ferry. We would have been living in a park homeless up there . 72 and 62 year olds No motorway services no hotels, it’s easy now to forget what a big deal it was ,and frightening , the not knowing what was next to close down, maybe the Chunnel. So we decided to stay put till things were improved. Our ferry for this Saturday 25th was cancelled on Friday !     We are now booked on 21st July ! Now I hear that if you have stayed more than 183 days in the year! We will now have to pay Spanish Tax on our worldwide income and assets ! Anyone got any input on this ?

Irrespective of the onslaught of Covid-19 Revenue gathering officials in Spain are members of the human race. To my knowledge even they haven't set  red tape measures in train regarding people who were effectively trapped in Spain. There was little you could have done to ensure that you could have complied with Spanish tax regulations.

If I were you, I'd literally say nothing at this moment. There may be a time if you receive a Tax Invoice from Spanish Revenue you can represent yourself. However, I don't think the Spanish Revenue will be wasting much time on such measures.

Thanks Mathew. I really appreciate your reply and thoughts. I’m feeling a bit better about it all now.     Here’s hoping they don’t penalise us 🙄. Will let you know

Really, really very unlikely you'll get troubles over this. Just assume nothing happened and don't wake the sleeping dogs.
