insurance on a second car as a tourist

i am not a resident of mojacar but own a apartment in Mojacar ,i ll come 8 to 8 weeks to the beautifull mojacar ,i am planning to buy a second hand car ,i contacted a Insurance company and they told ,they only offer full year carinsurance ,this is a bit much for the use of a second hand car 6 to 8 weeks per year ,is there any other way to do this or how do other tourists this ,please advice ,grtz roland ps i am from Belgium and 50 plus

This isn't possible. The law in Spain is that if you own a vehicle it must be insured at all times irrespective of whether it is being used or is parked up on or off the road. As a result, no companies provide short term insurance. I believe you can add people to a policy for a short term, family members visiting you and driving your car while they are on holiday for example. But the main policy in your name must be annual.

Thank you ,thats bad news ,maybe is it will be better to lease a car ,it will be new and at the end of the two year lease ,you get the choice to buy it or have another two year contract ,i dont know ?? In Belgium i pay 220 euro for a ford mondeo per year on Insurance,in Spain they told me it will be 180 per month ,why so expensive ,it will be even a small car
