Hi, we have been looking at some beautiful properties up in the mountains and just wondering why they haven’t been snapped up. We don’t want to live in a town but a 10 minute drive to some shops is fine, similar to where we live now. We prefer a Mountain View, not coastal and quite secluded. ...

...Is there a reason that the villas with Mountain View’s are not being bought? Land slides, crime etc. we are planning to fly over soon to check out some properties and areas with a view to spending longer letter in the year and out of season before we fully commit. Just wondering if we should discount our top 3 properties already 😢🤔

Mountain view/remote properties have their appeal some rustic or rural locations are forbidden to build pools and even the house might not have the necessary paperwork in place. The two we looked at didn’t have paperwork for the pools or houses. Sometimes access might be difficult in rainy weather and indeed impassible at times. But if that’s workable and you take the correct guidance there are some bargains to be had. We moved within walking distance to a small town and have several neighbours but we still feel we have views and it’s very quiet. What seems like a beautiful remote location can be isolating at times. But horses for courses. Good look

Thanks. We currently live in a rural location with barking dogs and next to a farm with chicken and cockerels but we actually don’t hear them any more and we have the doors and windows open all night. I think you get used to the noise around you. We would obviously rent first, but with 3 cats and a property to sell we are having second thoughts.

Hi Greekgalagogo,

Have you ever considered a cave house?

I live in one on north end the Altiplano of Granada with a view of the Sierra de la Sagre.  My porch faces due west so every evning we have a different sunset over the mountains west of the nearby town.

We do not have a pool but there is a municipal a 20 minute walk (5 min drive) from us.

The pool is fed by an underground and  unlike out door pools in the campo is quite cool. Pools in Spain if they are in sunlight all day are imo are not usable really. When I spoke to a property owner up here he told me that in the height of the summer the pool temp could be upto 40 degrees. So he basically has t omainteain his pool all year so it's possibly usable for maybe 30 days out of the year.

A nice thing about  cave house is they also remain at a constant temp range from 18 to 22 year round.

If they have an outbuild extension there is usally a wood stove or pellet burner installed to keep it nice and cosy in winter.

It can be quite cold in  the morings in winter  but once the sun gets up it warms up.

I can fill you in on more if your intrest is piqued

We spent 3 months here in 2022 and we saw our property on our last week here. Every property we viewed didn't look like the pictures. Fortunately the one we bought had terrible pictures but had just come on the market and we snapped it up for €265000, It has great mountain views and is only 5 minutes to the town of Huercal-Overa. We have almost finished the main work, painting, rendering, solar panels, flyscreens, pool repairs but we definitely think it's worth it, 6-bed including a separate 2-bed apartment, 270 metre internal living space including fly screened area, 52 square metre pool, large enclosed garden and olive trees in a separate area  totalling 4500 square metres, large garage and two stores one of which I have converted to a Bar.

Be careful how high above sea level you go as it gets a good bit cooler in Winter. We have oil central heating and a log burner and we used them in the winter and we are quite low down near San Francisco.

Thanks everyone. There is a lot to take into consideration. Just the CGT confusion is mind boggling!

Not sure we fancy a cave house. Really looking at something similar to what we have here in Greece but with a bit more land, nearer an international airport, supermarkets and more to do in the Winter.
