There is one big restriction. When you apply for your visa they take your passport, therefore no way to leave the UK. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Thanks for clarifying this.

I will try and ask the consulate if I am allowed to travel into Spain once I have my visa and return immediatly with car to UK and load up and return immediatly to Spain.....what a pain....or just bin my stuff  - probably cheaper to do this but the missus will not be happy!

First of all good luck with any communication with the consulate. Our experience with Manchester was always ridiculously slow in replying and then it would usually be the bog standard refer to FAQs.

This info is based on our experience getting NLV visa, if you're applying for a golden visa then I think things are a little different.

Secondly if you're lucky enough to have to attend the Manchester consulate it's quite possible they will let you keep your passport, they did with us so we were able to travel to Spain while waiting for our visas to be granted to be there for the completion of our property purchase.

Thirdly, there are limits to how long you can stay in Spain, the 90 days in any 180 days applies and that includes traveling through France. If you're looking for a visa then you really don't want to be in breach of this rule.

Once you have your visa issued then you have 90 days to re=enter Spain and once you're in Spain a further 30 days to make an appointment to register for your TIE.

Certainly seems you've got your work cut out. We thought our way of getting our visa was stressful lol.

Thanks for the helpful information.

Having looked at the consular website this implys they keep the passports as it says you have to go in person to get them back.

I think the best option is to bin anything I cannot take by plane - I dont have masses of stuff as I did a run in a motorhome an brought a fair bit!

One thing I am learning about Spain is that there is the official way things are supposed to be done and then "local interpretion" as to its implimentation!

I guess I will only realy know if I get my passport back as I leave the interview - if I have to have one.
