We are planning to take a few used household items (dining table and chairs, TV) to replace items in our apartment. We are then bringing back all our personal effects (clothes, shoes, golf cubs etc) and some household items from the apartment (TV, glass table, TV table, fold up chairs which are all years old) as we plan to rent the apartment out from May 2022. Have heard we need to provide a manifest of any items for the Spanish customs (we are taking the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander). Has anyone done this recently and did you need to provide these details. Thanks.

Hi, I have recently contacted a Removal company about this, and the answer was yes you have to provide a detailed manifesto, and also you have to have a TOR1 form, which you download from the UK government website, I was told this form gives you the right to take stuff into the UK without paying any duty. Also they said best to to the TOR1 form as soon as possible as it can take months to come thru.

This link might be helpful.   https://www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-personal-use/arriving-in-Great-Britain

The way I read it is that you have a ‘personal allowance’ of £390 per person. Are your belongings worth more than that?

I also think the TOR1 form is for when you change residence from Spain to UK - do you have residencia?

Thank you. your reply is helpful. I have tried looking at the Government website but it seems to be about commercial goods. The value of the second hand furniture we are taking to replace other items is about £20! We are bringing back our personal belongings and some small items of furniture we don't want to leave in a rental property (table with a glass top etc)  - probably worth about £50. We are UK residents who have been using a holiday home for a couple of weeks several times a year, for the last 17 years - so not taking up Spanish residency or ever planning to.

Sounds like you’ll be fine then.

In the link I posted, the section “Allowance for all other goods” covers your situation as it refers to personal goods, not commercial.

No forms to fill in either as you’re UK residents and goods worth less than £390.
Personally, I wouldn’t bring anything back that you don’t really need, perhaps sell them here or give to charity?
