Yeah you can do that, but the document is only valid for 21 days from the date of application and then you have to obtain a new one. I guess that's to stop people with new points using the document from say a year or two ago when it could be point free. I think I have only had to show this paperwork at the Avis office at Almeria airport, but its always good to have it just in case.

Kev.

Hi Bob/Sandra.

Merry Chhristmas, hope you've had a great time thus far.

Popping by mid morning or whatever time suits will be fine. No real idea if we'll be in if I'm being honest lol.

I'll put the wheelbarrow by the wall/gate where the trash bags were in case Ann decides she wants to take her mom n dad somewhere.

(Ann's mom dad and aunty came for Christmas last Friday for a week).

My only stipulation for tomorrow is that I need to be over in Taberno from about 4pm and Ann has mentioned taking them somewhere's, destination unknown at this precise time lol.

We enjoyed Christmas dinner in the new flyfree, on the big table, in the sunshine, the weather blessing us with a lovely day, no wind but lots of sunshine.

7 people for dinner in all, Ann and I were up from 6am putting in the turkey we got from a local butchers, up again at 9am, 9.45, 10.30 and finally took the bird out around 11am, legs falling off the body etc, first time in about 5 years that we've had a whole as opposed to a legless turkey crown. Others friends/neighbours came round after tea and quite a bit of wine/beer got drunk lol.

Seems that Ann's mom, (90), dad,(90) and Aunt Jessie, (94), are the oldest people that most all the friends and neighbours who came to a get together Ann organised Saturday have ever met lol. Needless to say theyre having a whale of a time being made to feel so very welcome.

On another note, do you still have a spare gas canister ?, neighbour at the bottom of the street still wants/needs a spare if you do.

Thx for the loan of the wheelbarrow, hope to see ya'll in the new year as well as on the forums.

Jim n Ann.

Just started and posted information regarding exchanging UK driving licence for Spanish one on another page but I'll re-post again.

Process requires the following.

UK passports need to be notarised.

Applicant needs to undergo a brief medical covering (I believe such things as eyesight, co-ordination etc, will be able to be more precise once we've had this done.)

You'll need a new Padron certificate. (You are required to renew Padron's every three mths anyways.)

Provide at least one new passport photo.

Give up your UK driving licence be it the credit card style photo licence or the ancient paper one, (or both, partner still has hers).

Pay the €100 fee.

Whether this includes the arrangement fee and the licence fee I'm not 100% sure, CamConcepts in Huercal Overa are helping with ours and seemingly everthing is being done in Huercal Overa.

You'll get a certicate to say your getting the transition done just in case you get stopped by the Policia Local or the Guardia Civil and get your new Spanish driving licence in around 3 months.

Again, from what I know or have picked up, if just visiting the UK Brexit or otherwise you'll be ok driving in the UK for at least 3 months with Spanish registered vehicle and Spanish driving licence.

If your "going back home" permanently as some do then I would say you'd most likely have to go down the opposite route of swapping back your Spanish driving licence to a UK one as well as reverting back to having your vehicle put back onto UK number plates but dont quote me lol.

The process of hiring a car in the UK with a Spanish driving licence might be a bit of a grey area since I wouldnt know how you'd go about getting your driving record that most car hire companies seem to want these days. Of course during the three month period wherein you dont have a "proper" driving licence of any kind you wouldnt be able to hire a car full stop. Anyone done that recently ?.

Trying to cover as many bases as possible here.

I would take a look at the DVLA website for Licence info. You need to replace after 2 years of residency not 6 months as suggested. Useful informed info...

My passport didn't need to be certified, and 20 days the licence is done! Hearing test was pretty good tho...I could see his finger choosing the pitches....so I passed!!

The only time I have ever been asked to show the DVLA licence code was at Manchester Airport after a flight from Inverness! I have never been asked for it in Spain with multiple hire cars from Avis and Centauro.
