I am new to Spain and waiting for my NIE.Can l still get a mobile phone contract? If yes, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced contract with good coverage in rural area outside Albox. We're temporarily staying near Mojacar at the moment.

Yes, you can certainly get a mobile phone contract. I can recommend DigiMobil who offer a variety of different plans to suit both your needs and budget.
Digi is carried by Movistar so should have coverage as it is the largest network in Spain

There are various shops that sell Digi pre-paid plans, but if you want a contract you are better off doing it online : https://www.digimobil.es/movil/
You have a choice of either unlimited which gives you unlimited national calls, or combo which gives you ‘n’ minutes national AND international calls. There’s a whole range of plans that for example in combo package range from 5€ a month which gives you 6GB data and 100 minutes national / international calls up through to 25€ a month which is unlimited data and unlimited national and international calls.
