Well while we are on the subject of wandering critters and leads maybe I can hijack this post a wee bit and suggest that, as well as our furry four footed friends, there is need for a rule that young childern are kept on tethers (leash, lead take your pick) or as some are inclined to opine not be allowed to dine in resturants particularly ones with outdoor spaces adjacent to a busy road.
Reasoning- yesterday I was heading towards the Red Cross roundabout and a young child darted out from one of the three resturants. Between the pedestrain cross walk and the roundabout. He/she/they were running into the road, had one foot on tarmac before he/she/ they were grabbed. Luckly there were people using the cross walk and traffic in that direction had been stopped. Muggins here was the one in front so I got to breathe sigh of relief. Then shake a bit as I realized that had it been couple of seconds sooner and who knows what the outcome would have been.
Now I can hear you say I should have been going slow enough to stop in time but what speed would that be? This would be a speed which which would be impossible to gage and for the record I rarely exceed 25KPH while traveling on the strech between the Cantal and Stable roundabouts, for obvious reasons.
Yeah I'm one of those old farts that people complain about but hey I'm retired, in no hurry anywhere in particular and if I have to be somewhere at a ceratin time I leave with plently of time built-in to be early or on time. Hate rushing and I think being late to meet someone is just plain rude unless they are Spaniards then that goes out the window, so build a bridge... Leave on time to allow meeting me going your way.
As I watched the mother return with said explorer, I saw that the table the child had come from had a large group sitting there enjoying themselves in the sun, I had time to look as the crosswalk was quite busy. I did not see or maybe notice any high chairs so the child was probally bored and wanted to explore. Maybe he/she/they noticed the funny face across the street and wanted to investigate. Guess you can't blame the child for that.
So to the meat of this hijack perhaps the restaurants with outdoor seating can prohibit young childern from being there unless they remain securely strapped in to thier strollers or in highchairs provided. ( I can already hear the howls that will raise)
To keep somwewhat within subject of dog poo maybe if one wants to have a coffee after walking their bowler prehaps the resturants can pitch in and ensure that one is a law abidding citizen and have poo bags in your possession and your dog is secured to a leash. This way you are required to carry them and may at least be inclines use them. Otherwise sorry we only serve lawabiding citizens.
