Hi, hope someone can help?

We are coming to live in La Alfoquia in October/November this year and have been advised to get a funeral plan in place as in Spain you get very little time to organise these things should the unimaginable happen.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, preferably English Speaking, Funeral Directors in the area?

I've had a look at Collyers, in Huercal Overa's website and liked what I read, but does anyone have any first hand experience of them or another good Funeral Director, with a rough guide on how much this would cost for both me and my wife Paula?

TIA.

Hi.

I would also recommend Collyfer. My husband sadly passed away 7 months ago. He died in hospital unexpectedly and we had no plan in place. It's very different to Britain in how they deal with death in hospital here and I was told, within 15 minutes of his passing, that I had to have his body taken away immediately. It was quite a shock but fortunately someone at the hospital rang Collyfer for me who jumped into action and took care of everything. I've now had them quote me for a prepaid plan for myself and it's very reasonable.

Beat of luck on your move.

Hi Juliet, sorry to hear of your loss.

Many thanks for letting us know that if you did need Collyfers assistance at the worst time, as you did, they'd be straight there to sort it out. It's  very reassuring to hear.

Another tick in the box for Collyfers.

Kind regards,

Chris & Paula

Hi Chris & Paula

Welcome to Spain and your new purchase in El Cucador. My mum lives there in the road opposite La Vida so we may bump into each other as often at La Vida too!

We have an Avalon plan as mum already had. We bought the plan when we arrived 6 years ago. It covers us for Spain and Uk: we paid a fixed price which could also be done by installments if you wish and allows us to have it all planned should the unexpected occur.

Like you, we faced reality as our children are in the Uk. We have a card ( which I carry on me) from Avalon and police would just have to call and all arrangements can be sorted especially given the quick turn around in Spain, it would delay the process if they wish to fly out. I think also the option for ashes to be transported back to UK if required. It’s peace of mind and knowing it’s all paid for in advance as all assets and bank accounts could be frozen before inheritance meaning the children/dependents would be unable to release funds beforehand if required.

Sorry to hear about your dog, bless him. Thank you for info on Murcia.

Good luck and hope you get the right plan for you.

Pamela

Hi Pamela, thank you for your post, it's very interesting, because up to now we've been concentrating on just Collyfers, due to some amazing advice earlier and they seemed to cover all our bases.

Now, I feel we need to maybe investigate other options, to ensure we would not be leaving the remaining loved one, or children, to have to sort anything out.

We've read articles about Avalon reps, and others, being very pushy and this doesn't sit well with us.

All we want is a simple cremation, no frills, no ceremony, paperwork completed on behalf of the other surviving person, collection of body, ashes in an urn. So that the surviving spouse has nothing to do whilst trying to get their head around everything else.......

If you see a black and white Shih Tzu, with a harness on (his name's on it - Nelson), sat outside La Vida, feel free to say hi. xx

Kind regards,

Chris, Paula and Nelson

Hi Chris & Paula

I will definitely look out for you albeit I’m away atm.

Pleased that I’ve been able to point out things to consider which you can take up with      Collyfers: sounds like they do a sterling job in all other respects.

If you require a contact for Avalon as a comparison then I can check out if still available. I wouldn’t have said we had a high sales pitch but it pointed out the pitfalls.

We didn’t research further as mum already had a plan with Avalon so it could be that Collyer offer the same service

Good luck and if I can be of further assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask.
