Wow that's brilliant. We will thanks Vijack. Can't believe how much cheaper it is for pet care. Let's hope that they don't copy the UK and start charging a lot more for treatment.

Thanks again that's very kind of you to let us know.

Kind regards,

Chris n Paula

No probs. We live in Alfoquia and everyone is very helpful, especially the Coviran Supermarket..

Yeah can't wait to move to Alfoquia in October.

Initially we thought we'd prefer Arboleas but the chance came to hire a villa for a week in La Alfoquia, so we went for it and loved the place. Everything you need in one place all within easy walking distance too.

Thanks again guys.

I’d also like to add that I have found the local vets are not only cheaper but also more caring and more thorough - or at least mine is.  We used to bring an elderly Westie over to Spain.  He’d regularly suffer from ear infections and it was rare for us to get out of the vet in the U.K. with a bill for less than £70  to cover seeing us for all of 5mins and giving us some medication.  This was back in 2013. When we took him to the vet here, the first thing she did was to test to see  whether the infection was bacterial or fungal - something our U.K. vet never checked. The total cost including testing and prescription was 22€. She is also extraordinarily good with dogs.  My new dog gets really excited when we go near her surgery and once in, dashes through the door to see her.  ‘Nuff said!

Aww that's lovely. Well thank you for sharing that with us, it's very reassuring to hear. Ours have ear/eye drops and even have injections for itchy paws monthly back here in the UK, monthly cost for both is £180 each visit, that's not even having their anal glands checked, you can add another £15 each for those to be checked too.

Roll on Spain!

Back in 2002. My wee Westie Bonnie had itchy feet that would swell. I checked the protein in her food and treats, some were 35% ! so, onto Pedigree Chum sachets 7%, never had any bother after that and she passed in 2008 at 14.

Hi L181SKY, that's interesting, Westies do tend to have skin/itch problems, but when they're your fur babies you want to do everything you can for them.

We feed ours on Lily's which they love and it contains 10% crude protein. I must I didn't know that would affect them that much.

It may be worth us trying them on the pedigree pouches? Can you you get them out there in Spain?

TIA

Have to say we junked the very expensive shampoo our vet recommended for our Westie’s itchy skin, and used a cheapo coal tar pet shampoo.  Worked wonders and way cheaper and more effective than U.K. vet recommendations!  We used to tell to him to wait until we got to Spain to see the vet!  Only downside I’ve found with treatment of my pet dogs in Spain is that it’s difficult to find someone who can handstrip a dog with a double coat, such as a border terrier.  One I tried in Almeria ripped hairs out far to vigorously leaving her with raised bumps in her skin for weeks!

Ouch..... that sounds painful. Yeah must admit we always take with a pinch of salt what the vets say sometimes. Each one says different things, depending on who you see.

I guess it must be like that in Spain too?  Each vet has his/:her opinion I suppose.

Kind regards,

Chris & Paula

Good idea to go on a course and learn to hand strip your own.

I don’t know but I’ve got two tiny Rommy rescues now and they are fussy ,well one is, and I was looking for the pouches can’t find them but they have had a tin of chum   just now and it went down ok lol.   I buy Butternut Box and it’s excellent. Unfortunately  I don’t think you’d get that in Spain
