I am here for 90 days and had hoped to arrange to have an above ground pool installed for next year,as I was assured that you dont need planning permission. However,on mentioning it to my abogado, she was worried and arranged for an arcitect to come and look at the site.I am in Sta Maria de nieva, near Huercal Overa, and you do need Planning permission,as a lot of Sta Maria is still rustica. Our house is legal,as it replaced the old farmhouse. But I cannot put any sort of pool, garden shed,or garage. He said we could try a removable one,but the Police could still make us take it down.I have had a small 15ft.round inflatable one up in Summers past, with no problems as I take it down before leaving.Basically, anything that has to be built cannot be done.

I am posting this because a wooden pool company, who I had planned to use,is advertising that no Planning Permission is required in Spain.Different areas have different Laws. The Laws in Sta Maria planning changed in 2010.Please check, check and check again.Dont believe what you read in adverts. The arcitect was angry as he said that these companies will tell you anything to get your money, and once you have signed the contracto you have to pay.

It is expensive - and difficult to get permission to put in a pool big enough for serious exercise swimming.  For cooling down, splashing around with children, or floating on a lilo there is a lot to said for an inflatable one - they will need regular replacing but save the year- round cost of worry and care when not in use, though there is the cost of water for refilling when they are first put up.  However it need not be wasted when they are takne down, but can go on the garden after the chemicls have expired.

Many thanks.I have found GRE pools at various ferreteria. They are steel framed and as I am going to be over here for the 90 days allowed, they may be ok.I have also seen the Bestway and Intex ones.Just wish we had put a pool in a few years ago!

We had a Bestway one that worked by inflating a ring at the top (in England) that lasted about 4 years.  Eventually the ring had many tiny holes, probably the deterioration of the material under the sun, but it was very much enjoyed while it lasted and even looked attractive.  None of the 'instant' ones come with good enough pumps and filters, it is worth investing in good ones at the beginning and saving a lot of time and grief...

Thank you.I had a pool in England with an Espa(Spanish) pump, but I think it would be too powerful for a small pool.
