Hi, partner and I live in Urcal and just love it.
There is just one pig farm as far as everyone is concerned in Urcal, or just a few km's outside the village on the way to the motorway, theres a bit of an odour first thing and last thing, a few minutes each time which you both get used to and then ignore, when you put this mild inconvenience against the lovely peace and quiet it's a veritable flea speck in time lol.
On any given day there's the occasional tractor, truck and trailer go to work first thing and last thing, the odd car here and there, the rest of the time the peace and quiet, solitude are deafening lol, literally if you cant chill out and de-stress here youve really got problems lol.
There's a nice mix of brits and spanish, theres two bars with another just the other side of the motovia on the road into Los Norias where the owner does free spanish lessons at wednesday lunch time, we're 7 minutes from the A7/E15 and around 12 minutes from the main town of Huercal Overa.
The "Horror story" about pig farms and flies and smells I think you'll find is quite an old post when there were quite a lot more farms, pig and goats included.
As above, we love it, we're 40 minutes from the coast if you want to eat out or walk along the sandy beaches and/or promenades, maybe not in the touristy season because of traffic density and parking etc but there any ways, if you follow the naturist cause theres even a community in Vera Playa lol.
Come on along and enjoy, the food is tasty and cheap, as is/are the beers and wines, big street market in Huercal Overa on Mondays with a smaller one on Thursday but then again theres a market on most everywhere on any given day somewhere just like its 5 oclock somewheres.

Hi, by now you may have checked out the Bar Amazir, darts nite Thursday lol, just social lol, starts around 8 but the bar is open from early on as is the shop, what bit of Urcal are you at/in ?, partners villa is kind of on the way out to the motorway, you can see her villa with its new large enclosure from the road over to the right, theres some tall street lights and a clutch of mail boxes, turn right and keep right, hers is the one on the right, big black gate long hedge, welcome.

Hi, we're moving into the area very soon and would really appreciate it if you know of a chimney sweep in the area, and where to buy firewood!
Thank you...

Hi, VB, there are various places you can buy firewood at, theres one place between Urcal village and the motorway, theres another as you go into town by the ambulance station, various other suppliers I can ask around for you. There are quite a few around us who use wood burning stoves that could supply firewood suppliers numbers but they might not speak english.
If you get a hold of the free magazines and weekly papers you'll most likely find a chimney sweep too.
The friday market at puerto lumbreras has firewood sellers on the road opposite the waste ground car park.
That should help you get youre quest started.
