What about the British who live in the interior or the north of Spain?

So far this year has been.warmer here in Almeria this winter, although in central and northern Spain, away.from the Mediterranean  coast, it is always much colder than anywhere in the UK in the winter and with very heavy snow falls.  Madrid, although on the same line of latitude as Rome, happens to be the highest capital in Europe at 667 metres above sea.level and consequently is exceptionally cold in the winter.

I just think it’s wrong for someone living in a warm country to get a winter fuel allowance. Apart from the fact that utility cost are lower in Spain, there are plenty of pensioners in the UK dealing with rising utility costs and much harsher temperatures. No money going to Spain means more mon...

...ey that could be used for those that really need it.

A warm country like Spaim. All of Spain is not the costas.

I'm aware in winter the night the temps can drop due to the altitude, but it soon warms up. I stand by my opinion that the winter fuel payment isn't warranted in Spain.

I don't hear of many Spaniards moving to the UK for the mild winters.

This discussion is going nowhere. There are qualification rules laid down, if you qualify you get the allowance, if you don't you miss out. Who cares where it's coldest wettest here or there or how quickly it warms up in the morning? The government did not think these factors could be measured, or maybe simply did not think. If you think it's wrong that I get a heating allowance for my unoccupied flat in UK, while enjoying the Las Negras sun (which has failed to appear today) then elect a government that will put a stop to it, don't criticise those who choose to receive what's on offer.

That's why I'm paying the highest ever taxes because people are now abusing the system when they don't need the assistance, it's called winter fuel assistance for a reason. Agree about your comment about the system and needs stopping.

You are paying the highest ever taxes for many reasons such as funding one or several unwinnable wars nothing to do with UK, playing host to half West Africa and Asia, spending fortunes on infrastructure then cancelling on the stroke of a pen, funding Scottish overseas foreign embassies that have no legal right to exist, there are not enough hours in the day to even list 1% of the abuse of your tax payments, if indeed you pay any. The heating allowance is required because most with good sense leave theirs on a low setting in winter when they are not there, then come to Spain and buy gas cylinders firewood heating oil you name it, because it gets very cold down here in Las Negras. So it is usually spent by the people who qualify and receive it, on what is intended.
