One thing to note with the mandatory breakdown cover (insurance companies must provide it) is the distance from registered address that a recovery will be effected in the event of a complete breakdown. MOST insurance companies set a radius of about 120 km from registered address for recovery - only two companies that I am aware of give unlimited coverage for recovery; MAPFRE (quite expensive) and Linea Directa, who are reasonably priced. I have been with Linea Directa since June 2017, have used recovery to get my car to a garage after starter motor failed and breakdown to jumpstart a dead battery. Linea have a great app that allows you to request breakdown assistance etc, it can be set to English and they have an English language customer service number as well.
