Hi,

We are thinking of moving to Garrucha or Vera Playa. We are a couple 50 years young and would like to know how easy it is to get a job. My husband is a lorry driver at present and I am a property manager in the property sector  for a large property portfolio. It can be full time or part time or seasonal work just as a bit of spending money. We open to all sorts or work i.e. bar work, cleaning, waiter/waitressing, house siting, dog walking, admin, driving, etc.

Do these areas still have plenty of bars and restaurants open in the winter months or do they close?

Is there a good amount of ex pats in these areas?

Also wondered if anyone can recommend a good agent and solicitor to help with the move.

Look forward to some positive feedback.

Thank you,

Michelle & Richard

Vera Playa has more English people/bars than Garrucha. Alot are open in the winter. Garrucha as far as I know do not have any English bars now. Start learning the language it is also a plus. Mojacar have estate agents who are English and even more English bars/people. Rent before buying or selling up in UK so you can have a good look around yourselves. Alot of  cleaning work is done by eastern Europeans I find. Good luck.

Thank you for this :)

We visit both areas twice a year as we have family in Purchena but would rather be closer to the beach with a bit more life!

There are also a fair amount of English speaking people in Vera as well; I find that a lot of the shops cater for English speakers by having signs in English as well as Spanish.  Vera is not far from the beach - depending on your idea of “far” - about 7km, but it is a vibrant and friendly town.

Being around same age as yourselves and having just settled here, I would echo the advice given above to start learning the language - especially if you intend to seek work.

I'm looking to buy a small holiday apartment in garrucha. Long way to go yet - but I'm looking.

I'm 57.

How would you like to be an administrator for a community of apartments?

Not sure exactly what the pay is or what's involved. I'm on a steep learning curve with few teachers but someone has sent me a really useful web site - here......
