Hi. My husband and I moved from the uk to Garrucha 2 years ago. I can honestly say it’s the best thing we’ve ever done. I agree with a lot of the comments here, but we’ve always felt accepted by the spanish here. We wanted somewhere that didn’t close down out of season, and was not a ‘British ‘ community, and we have that here. There are 2 main supermarkets, lots of independent shops, beach, mountains, great cafes and restaurants, and just a lovely feeling about the place. We started trying to learn Spanish before we came, and although it’s slow going, we can get by. My friend offers rooms through Airbnb and has a good stream of visitors throughout the year, so a holiday rental may work well. Happy to answer any questions and you’re free to message me. Good luck!

Agree with the other conversations here. We live in Vera Playa just down the road from Garrucha. We looked in Garrucha but found that a lot of the apartments we liked online or in estate agents had no outside terrace there or were in buildings that had no elevator at all. It's a lovely town and we love the whole area. Bus service is great and there is ways lots to do as well as lovely walks on the beach.

We found a lovely apartment just up from the beach which was right for us with swimming pools inside and out. Good luck with your search.

I own a tiny apartment in Garrucha and have visited a number of times.

Agree with the previous remarks. Although I say there are three supermarkets. One that gets overlooked is more aimed a bulk buy purchases but has a lovely chilled cheese room.

The harbour is a working harbour. It has large cargo ships moored up being loaded with Gipsum Monday to Friday. So this detracts from the idyllic picture postcard image - but its no problem really.

Mojacar is almost within walking distance to the south. And Vera is a short bus or car ride to the north. Both have more Brits about.

Garrucha has a number of local community entertainments throughout the year. These are amazing. Really gives the place a warm community feel.

Garrucha has a migrant worker population, presumably from Africa. They all seem chilled and relaxed. But if you wander away from the main street its best to be aware that the towns community is a bit poorer than you might imagine.

The town and its surrounding areas are great, really nice and typically Spanish with warm friendly hearts. But the area was also badly held back when the financial crash occurred. Building are in half built state in some parts. It will take a long time for these to get back on track - especially if forecasts for Europe's economy to decline in the next decade are realised.

The weather is great. Very sunny often warm. I love it but many people live indoors until its dark. The sun is a cruel thing. Its warm and inviting but those UV lights age and toast everything. In the garrucha area there's a coastal breeze most of the time so it rarely becomes sticky and impossibly hot. But if youre out on the beach beware- the cool breeze might make you forget to take sun block precautions.

Airports are around 60-90 minutes away, Murcia or Almeria. Alicante is a bit further but do-able by car.

In my humble opinion this area is a hidden gem. Too far away for Brits on the piss but a beautiful area for relaxing.

Have no commercial interest in it but if you are looking for a agent then can I recommend Alphonso at Zar which is  nearly opposite the Santander bank in Calle Mayor in Garrucha. He is a really nice guy, speaks good English and he puts himself out for you and I can't say that about some of the...

... agents I have dealt with.....Sold my apartments I have had both in Garrucha and Palomares through his company. They have plenty of places to purchase and rent. Would recommend going to see him.

I have to agree with this, Alphonso was really helpful.  I felt I could trust him and my experience throughout the purchase confirmed this.  It wasn't a straightforward purchase as the owners were several family members who had inherited the property

Yes,Alphonso puts himself out and that can't be said of a lot of the other estate agents who think they can just sit back and let the money roll in....
