Working in the funeral profession myself for 8 years I was intrigued how this works in Spain. I found this guy http://m.englishfuneraldirector.com/About-Us.html and he covers Costa Almeria, not sure what what reviews he has but seems quite comprehensive. Here in the UK it takes on average two weeks for a funeral whereas it takes only 2-3 days in Spain! With the rising cost of funerals here in the UK they will reach about £5000 by 2019 for a standard cremation. If you take out a plan make sure it covers everything including third party charges i.e. doctors fees, cremation fee and minister fees. Good

Reading all of your comments aboout funeral plans, made me think that you will find this info usuful. It has been posted in other forums, so sorry if you have already have the info.

If you are resident in Andalucia, you have the chance to do your Advance Health Care Directives, or Living Will. This is a written document that contains your wishes and preferences about the health care and treatment that you wish to receive when you are unable to express them personally and also allows you to choose a person you trust as your Representative or Health Care Proxy. Even a second representative can be appointed.

The document get registered at the Junta de Andalucia and the registration is free taxes.

You probably need help from your doctor, otherwise, you can do it by yourself or get legal help.

Very interesting to have peace of mind and decide you own personal issues in advance.

By the way, as Karen wrote, Santa Luica, Mapfre, Sanitas, etc, are insurance companies, while Collyfer is a plan funeral company. Makes a diferent. So can also rely on the spanish public system, but it is really far diferent from the english one, from an organization point of viw. I went to a funeral in antas a couple of weeks ago, and the place was so cold and ugly....

Doesn't matter where you take out your funeral plan you choose your own funeral company and tanatoria.  Santa Lucia simply pay the bill, even if you go back to UK as long as you keep paying the premiums. 

Think you may need to confirm you don't have to retain a Spanish Bank account or a UK euro account.
