There’s also a challenge in the European court along the lines that EU Citizenship, once conferred, cannot be taken away.  As I understand it, the concept of EU Citizenship was introduced with the Maastricht treaty in 1993, and the ability to leave the EU was only introduced with the Lisbo...

Could be interesting.  No result is expected for at least 18 months or so, and it would likely not confer full rights on UK Citizens ... but it might maintain freedom of movement for UK Citizens born before 31/1/2020.

My G A W D! Dario, If Borissimus Maximus reads this, he'll be back to work faster than expected.

As posted on another thread (that i cant now find) re B.

I am looking to semi-retire to Mojacar area in 2022 , spending 6 months working in London and then 6 months relaxing in Mojacar.

Now, as a British passport holder, i assume that after 31st Dec 2020, that all Brits without residency will be given a 90 day visa once entering Spain?

Now, in my case(lets say i am staying 180 days), this will require me to re-new my visa after 90 days.

Could this be done in Gibraltar?

Sadly no.  90 days maximum, with 180 days out of Spain before you can re-enter for a further 90 days.

Hi Tricia, as Matthew has said, there are no cons whatsoever.  As an Irish passport holder, you enter Spain as an EU citizen and therefore are subject to regulations for Residencia.  This means you can decide to come and live in Spain whenever you like, you do not have to try and get Re...

Brexit and it’s effects don’t affect you at all, you lucky lucky person 😁

I'm back again and thanks Dario and Matthew for your feedback from way back when haha.

I've been reading through my previous posts because, as my late mother used to say 'I don't want to be boiling my cabbages twice!'

Since my previous posts. I've decided to find a long-term rental probably from October to April, area? I'm unsure at the moment, but thought about Almeria/Murcia. I've been in contact with a couple agencies.

Although I'm retired now but still  employed, I'm intending to hand my notice in probably in July.

I have a house here in the UK , so I'll no doubt spend the summer months here for the time being , obviously that can change.

I'm also going to find a hotel in either Almeria or Murcia so I'm at least over there to view rental properties, prior to renting long-term.

Your thoughts on both Almeria and Murcia (living) would be appreciated.

When I do move long-term, I'll be leaving my car here, so obviously, I'd like somewhere with nearby amenities and bus routes.

Many thanks 🙂

Tricia, I haven't read through previous posts on the subject so please forgive me if I am going over old ground. From what I hear (nothing like the "truth" from Bob-down-the-pub) the nearer you get to Murcia the greater chance you'll buy an illegal property.  Having said that, I'd also say employ a solicitor to act solely for you and not share a solicitor from the real estate agency or vendor. You biggest nightmare could be to buy an illlegal property.

Costa Almeria is warmer and drier than the Murcia Region and also Costa Del Sol.  I'll always recommend C.de Almería. We bought in Mojacar Playa nearly 20 years ago and from this year on we'll be using the place for six months per rolling year. We shortlisted several areas but the guiding light to buy in Mojacar Playa was dictated by the amount of people who previously lived/worked in C de Sol eventually retired to Mojacar Playa.

Have a look at some of my recent posts regarding purchase of property in Spain and the pitfalls and of course, your possible mindset.

If you haven't done so already, buy a note book exclusively for your Spanish adventure (even if you don't purchase property). Write down your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats, (SWOT analysis). You will always be adding to your notes and SWOT will change. Keep an open and honest mind of what you are doing. Your notebook will contain all your thoughts, figures, projects, places, estate agents, musts, must nots, possibilities, etc. Bring your notebook with you wherever you walk, drive, sit, work. It's your note book so keep it personal for your use only.

Strongly, I would advise that you do not sell your UK home. Keep it. Rent it out if necessary, but remember it's your guaranteed successful one way ticket if you have to beat a retreat. Believe me, I've seen many people return to the UK  almost financially shell shocked. It's something nobody needs to experience.

You're hell bent on buying in Spain, so do it right first time and cut down room for error at all stages. Coastal Spain is never going to run out of rental properties especially October to April inclusive. Therefore, time is on your side. "Hasten slowly" is my advice even if you listen to nothing I say.

You never know, there could be the makings of a best selling book within your notes.

I cannot comment on Murcia as I just don’t really know the province - only really Lorca that I have driven through and LOVE the old town - I’d love to stay there and explore.
Almeria province … well, that’s a “how long is a piece of string” question - there are SO MANY different towns and villages, all with their own unique flavour - you really need to look around and see where feels “right” for you.

Once again thank you Matthew.

Selling up here in the UK is not my preference to be honest. I'll rent it out furnished, hopefully to a couple of close friends of mine. At least then I'll not have to worry about storage and I'll still have my home during the summer months.

No worries about not reading my previous posts haha.

Over the past 3 years or so. I've gone from deciding to purchase a small caravan to travel Europe to purchasing a motorhome and using that for my travels.

My daughter was shocked to say the least lol. What happens if you breakdown, what happens if you're in the middle of nowhere, what happens if someone trys to break in..etc.

She's happier now with my new plans 🙂
