Thank you Devo; i certainly don’t consider myself “clever” by any meaningful measure, but thank you anyway.

Yes, yes I am left now. Socialist? Don’t know. All I do know is that in the ‘80s I was a raging Thatcherite, but I’ve lived around the world a bit … and all I know is that greed and rampant capitalism nauseates me now.  The celebration of how much money an individual has, when there ...

...are homeless and starving people, the devotion to how “lucky” the rich are to have yachts and ultra expensive cars and the like when people less fortunate die because in some countries they can’t afford basics like life saving medicine …. *sigh* there has to be a balance.  I don’t subscribe to the theory that you just have to “work hard” to be successful, because truly some people just don’t get that opportunity and I fail to see why those with a great deal more money look down their noses at the less fortunate and call them asinine names like “lazy scroungers”.  They should be looking at them and saying “there but for the grace of the gods go I”

But … karma is a bitch and does catch up.
And of course the Bony fellow in black robes is the great leveler.  It doesn’t matter how much or how little you have, in the end you are nothing but atoms of ash or worm food and the planet that you go back to couldn’t care about what you were.  You can’t take it with you.

Exactly enjoy what we have while we can all within our means and a semblance of decency. Not always possible for me unfortunately when I get the taste . Although I still believe you only get out of life what you put in . In my case with a crap education mainly hard work . Nothing great just earns a few bob and a reasonable pension and still working at 72 . Don’t need to but enjoy it and extra few £s is handy . My wife at 63 died in her prime so like you say , when he knocks whoever it is ,no rhyme or reason . That is why I like to sort of be pleasant on here . If people think that’s a bit lame and weak meet me . Goodnight from planet Dev

Veering off track for a moment - Devo, you asked what the situation was like here; well tis Monday morning, two days after the notification of masks not being needed outside.  I'd say that here in Vera a good 70% are STILL wearing masks and giving the stink eye to anyone who dares not wear one.  It's a small town though and ingrained ideas take a while to dissipate so in a few months, hopefully people will feel less nervous and more able to not wear a mask.

Off to Almería a bit later though, so will be interesting to see what the attitude is the the city.

Have you seen the heading . MOJACAR FORUM , not the Irish gazette , Scottish journal , Welsh mirror or Afghanistan article . It is supposed to be a nice friendly forum relating to things in the Almeria area unless you want to really expand and include Murcia or even further afield , Valencia . I ...

...know the Irish question/ problem is important , my father was born and bred in Ballymena , County Antrim a catholic in a predominantly prodestant area . And before you intellectually brilliant chaps tell me to pick my posts about pets or vaccine jabs . Why don’t you set your own 4 or 6 way cushdie chat up to sort the world out and slag each other off on that . Leave us boring nice people to enjoy this forum which I used to enjoy the Wednesday or Sunday emails saying ALMERIA FORUM . We have lost the Jenni’s , Biggles and even my old sparring partner Mathew who was a regular , witty and somewhat useless tipster . To cling to the post consequences of brexit is now dragging it out . Will someone who lives in Almeria please post something about what is happening in Almeria . Bars open , masks or no masks , live music or no music , is life back to some sort of normal , markets open ?  Anything that is relevant to this forum . Please come back Biggles , your motorhome post was good banter and relevant. Jenni where have you gone ? So many lost . WHY .         THATS ME SUNDAY RANT , take care folks ,stay safe and be respectful . Old Mr Dev

Devo, with due respect, this is a Discussion Forum. OK people want to know where they can buy a Wing-nut or a Philips Screwdriver. That's great! But, some of us like discussing something with more interest even in the political arena.

Nobody is pressganged into reading political discussions. You have the option of contributing or ignoring. We have discussed Brexit, Covid-19, Cheltenham Festival, NI Protocol, etc. Most posts here are of interest. None of us has to sleep with the other, we just can discuss and like I already said nobody is forced to participate. And if you don't want to see a post of any poster you can press the Block button.

Whenever, I get to bring our campervan (El Sombrero) to Spain I look forward to meeting Biggles and Jenni at whatever beach we park. And Devo, you'll be the first I'll invite for lunch in the van and I'll have a drop of Black Bush which I'm sure will go down well.

Look forward to meeting you Mathew and would enjoy a drink in El Sobrero and a look at the runners and riders when the proper racing starts, over the sticks .I think I’ve done with this forum . I’ve enjoyed most of it , been infuriated by some of it but it seems that the bulk of most conversations seem to be dominated by the same few contributors . Perhaps dominated is the wrong word but it so often turns into a slagging match which has nothing at all to do with the discussion . I will take your advice Mathew and join the many other (I’m sure) who read but don’t join the conversation . Thanks Dario for what’s happening in your town . Enjoy folks . Devo

And this just recently in.  Back to PCR tests / proof of vaccination to enter Spain again I’m afraid:

The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced this Monday (28 June) that Spain will require a negative PCR test result or proof of complete Covid-19 vaccination from all passengers who travel from the United Kingdom.

The announcement coincides with the addition of the Balearics to the UK's 'green list' which looks set to spark an influx of British holidaymakers to the islands later this week.

He said that Spain had no choice but to bring in these additional measures, which are the same as those applied to visitors from other EU countries, and they will come into effect within 72 hours.

Sánchez said the data coming from the United Kingdom is “worrying because they have a coronavirus infection rate well above 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days."

Best of luck with your 2nd jab JimH. I hope it works out for you without and after effects. With Euro2020 excitement I'm not 100% fully conversant  with all things Covid in Ireland and elsewhere. But, there are concerns regarding the Delta Variant and its progressively increasing numbers. Our Covid Hospital Admissions had reduced to below last November's but over the past two days numbers have begun to rise slightly and I don't see this improving. The 12 week wait for the AZ vaccine has been reduced but for those getting it it's 10 weeks and not 8. But, the vaccine process is carrying on relentlessly.

Restaurants and pubs were due to open for "indoor" sales next week but it appears that will be delayed by at least two more weeks. Foreign travel is being opened from 19th July and I don't see this being delayed. There is no traffic light system regarding Covid in Ireland and to be honest I don't think the average Irish person even knows what "Level" we're at.

Vaccination wise it looks like from July what is left of the Astrazeneca supply will be given to those under eighteen and future doses for everybody will be Moderna, Pfizer or Jannsen. Sputnik vaccine is an option too. The general belief is that everybody will have to receive another vaccine boost come winter.

Reading the Spanish online edition of El País yesterday, I get the feeling there is greater concern by the day there. I hope it doesn't happen but I can see inward foreign travel to Spain limited to fewer numbers shortly.

I'm not overly impressed with what I hear from the UK which is more concerned about a Tory snog with a Tory aide than it is about the virus. It's time the UK Press woke up to the fact that people have private lives which should be just that, private and not public news. For the record a "news" story such as this wouldn't see the light of day in Ireland for Irish politicians. Irish and Brits have other differences than the position of the electric toaster in the household.

July approaches and the marching Loyalist thousands in NI are still rehearsing their usual capers. If it helps they can march in my front door and out the back door and I'll give each a choice of Jameson, Cream of the Barley, Bushmills or Powers.

I've targeted November for my visit to Spain. Such is my belief of all things Covid that I haven't booked flights yet. I'm not convinced that restrictions will not be reimplemented come autumn. Again I hope I'm wrong.
