Very helpful member
Go into the Arboleas town hall and speak to either Danny or Mike, both English speaking councillors. They will fill you in. From memory friends who are going through the process of legalising their villa, they are up to 16,000 euros at the moment and taxes and legal bills etc still to come. As the others have said, be very very careful.
Abanchez town hall very helpful. Ask for Steve or Emma

I would advice not to proceed. Have your solicitor consult with the sellers solicitor with a view that the seller has the land properly registered .

Hi Jenni , I had a long term winter let in mojacar October to end of March so enjoyed the lovely March weather their . I had two trips back to uk for family visits and hospital appointments otherwise made good use of my Irish passport . ( before someone jumps in saying how could I get around the 90 in 180 ) . It’s amazing how the problem of illegal builds is still an issue in Spain after all the years of it been highlighted . Surely it would be in Spains interest to have sorted this out . Is it poor regulations or corruption . Hope all good with you and your pack . Dev

Problem is that any of the 1000s of houses could have the same problem, it could apply to any of the houses in the area. It all looked fine, small estate all services connected. The solicitor discovered the problem when doing the searches and we do not know that it is a problem until we speak to ...

...her when office opens on Monday. On the face of it the only way to avoid the problem is to buy on a huge estate with no empty plots oe undeveloped land in the vicinity.
Penny, there are plenty of legal properties out there You were wrongly advised that you had to pay your 3000 Euros deposit before instructing a solicitor as we always get the solicitor involves first. Also, when you do pay your 3000 pay it to your solicitor not the estate agent. Although maybe not the one you currently are using as it sounds they gave you bad advice. I strongly advise you not to part with any more money regarding this property. You cannot imagine how difficult it can be to resolve problems in Spain until you have lived here.

You do not discover there is a problem until you have instructed a solicitor and they have done the searches. So if we go for another property we will not discover there is a problem until searches are done and we will be in same position You do know what the situation is when you look and from the town hall map there is an awful lot of unconsoldated land. Our plot is at the end of a close and it is not clear that the conslidated bit finishes just before our house we were lucky our solicitor spotted the problem. We are OK in that agent will return deposit

Hiya,
O good for you, out of the British winter, but we had their rain here. I think it a bit of both plus laziness, I dont think the Spanish council's, town hall's, government etc pull their finger out until they have to and someone else is footing the bill.
Yes the pack all well and good. Have a good weekend. JX
