Hi there, what a horror story, this is what I'm scared of. I'm coming over in the new year and renting for a while until i find a property i like to buy, I won't hand over one cent until I have the deeds to a property . Fingers crossed everything works out for me, I'm from the Republic of Ireland...

... BTW.

Doesn't work like that Joe, to secure a property you have to give the estate agent 3,000 euro's. and then once both lawyers are happy, you have to put down 10% of the purchase price. (this is non refundable if you pull out, The money goes to the seller, if the seller pulls out they have to give you double back) and then the balance is paid when you go to the notary. and even then you might not get your deeds for a few weeks or even months.  Nice idea not to hand over a penny till you get the deeds, but you wont get very far.

Sorry Joe, I could have told you that but, thought you meant not paying the legal rep until you had the deeds, still not sure that’s possible either!
