After a very long struggle  we are now at the stage of applying for residency and I am looking for information on a couple of things related to this.

1) Does the S1 certificate cover you for medical treatment, or do you have to have private cover.

2) I have just received a quotation for a lawyer to do the residency for my wife and myself and his fee is 907 euro. Does anyone know if this is the normal fee for this or does the lawyer see me as donkey.

Regarding the S1 depends how old you are and when your residency application started ie pre or post Brexit.  There is plenty of information on the forum if you search for it

First off 907 seems a bit stiff. me and my partner paid half of that for both of us . Check out another abogados!.

As for the S1  yes it covers you  But you need to register it with the Social security after youve done your residency (Its not automatic as I found out later Grrr) And then register with a local health centre

907 Euros is a rip off, look elsewhere would be my advice!

Hi Leon,

Thanks for getting back to me. I am getting conflicting information regarding the amount of money that you must show that you have in a bank account, your monthly income and also how much you must have in your account when you have to renew your residency a second time. We are both retired and arrived in Spain in December.

Regards

Jim.
