I recently joyously completed the payment (€22mil) on a small finca near Purchena. I had paid the initial €19 and then, in line with apparent regulations, had to wait a year to make the final €3000 and to have the escritura notarised and signed off.

The elderly sellers accrued the services of a local attorney in Olula del Rio, who arrived belatedly at the notaries and assisted us. After we all signed off the notary asked whether we'd like copies. I immediately started saying 'well yes?' when said attorney took the documents and said 'ill keep them'. After this he informed me that I would have only a month. To come to his office, in order to pay an extra €1000 for 'taxes'?

The experience left me feeling very uncomfortable and caught off guard and not to mention having to cut my holiday short to return in two weeks to pay him.

What happened here, and what options do I have in this??

Thank you!!

did you not have your own lawyer to assist u?  there are taxes to pay on a purchase but you should not use the seller's lawyer for this and as the legal owner you should have the documentation not the seller's lawyer.   what proof do you have to show you own the property?

i recommend you find a lawyer who speaks your language fast to fix this for you.

Good advice from Alicia, this sounds a bit dodgy to me. Having bought 3 properties in Spain over the years, I have always walked away with the escritura. and never had to return to pay taxes. Good luck
