Has anyone recently done their residency and if you have how easy was it as it doesn't look easy to me and especially that you're solicitor can't do the process now so have to get visa in scotland and then come back to your solicitor to get your tie card I think it's a nightmare can anyone help David

Try CATS in La Alfoquia they deal with this I believe for a reasonable fee.

There are agencies in the UK that do deal with visa applications, and they charge varied fees.

It looks daunting, but if you are organised and follow the instructions on the visa pack from the embassy, it’s doable - evidenced by people who have done it.

Things to remember are if you need to present medical certificates etc, they will likely need to be translated to Spanish by an accredited translator.

The visa application itself costs around £530 from memory, and the required proof of income (currently 28.700€ for primary applicant) doesn’t have to be straight income; The embassy / consulate will guide you on what can form that required figure.

Medical Insurance is available - there you are better off contacting one of the companies in Spain that offer it because it must be medical insurance certified for residency visa application.

You’ll submit your application along with passport (or you may be required to bring passport at a later date) and once visa granted you have 90 days in which to take up residence in Spain, so you’d need to have some idea of where you’re going to go.

Once you arrive, you have 30 days to begin application process for a TIE.  If that is daunting, because of language or whatever, then yes go to someone like CATS services in La Alfoquia who will assist you through that process.
