yes you do need paperwork in Spain 

Why do so many people persist in believing that all trailers need paperwork!  Trailers of 750kg and below need NO paperwork.  What they do need is a number plate attached to the trailer when towing which shows the SAME number as the car or van which is towing it.

If you are at all confused by this, please go the the Sanjavier ITV Station website for clarification and, if you are still unsure, email and ASK them! I have confirmation on two emails directly from the ITV Station which states that ONLY a matching number plate is required.  This is for Trailers up to and below 750kg of course so perhaps this is where the confusion is.

Please don't post incorrect information without first checking with the relevant issuers of any documentation. i.e. ITV Station!!! They are the body which issues docs for vehicles and so on so THEY are the ones who know and if they say there is no requirement then there is NO requirement!!

After a complicated excercise I have my blue trailer log book and are now legal

My trailer is less that 750 kg

You only need one ITV inspection with a trailer less than 750 kg

I have a smaller 400 kg trailer also and am going through the same process now

You need a certificate of conformity from the trailer manufacturer to say that it conformes to EU regs to proceed It must be the original one either watermarked or impression stamped paper by the manufacturer Then take it and the trailer to the ITV for its one and only inspection

This is only if you want to tow it behind a Spanish reg car If you want to tow it behind a UK reg car you  only need a car registration plate on the trailer but as you know you can only do this in Spain for a limited period

If someone buys it to take it back to the UK behind a UK reg car you have no problem

Only if Spanish reg cars will be used

My experience is that these certificates are not readily available from UK manufactured trailers but you can try
