Hi

My husband and I currently live in the Canary Islands and hopefully in about 6 months would like to consider  moving Almeria and surrounding areas.

We are looking more for a British Community but with lovely walks.

Any suggestions

Thanks.

In the New Year we are having a holiday and would like to visit areas.

Hi, we have lived over here  for 2 years now. If you are looking for a fairly British community near the coast your best bet is probably Vera. There are quite a lot of British people living there and only about 10 minutes drive to the Vera Playa beaches which include Puerto Rey, Garrucha and further on to Mojacar. Going the opposite way you have the naturist area then Villaricos  a few kms along the coast.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Tony.

Hi Tony

I should have said we are retired and prefer not to drive if at all possible so would  need good transport links.A big supermarket is essential plus shops. Medical facilities.

Can you tell me what winter temperatures are like too.

Thank you for your response Tony

Hi, Vera is a reasonable size town with plenty of shops, supermarkets Lidl and Dia and an Iceland. Very difficult if you don't want to drive as transport services tend to be very hit and miss as there are very few bus services here. The only place that does have a regular bus service is Mojacar which runs along the coast and up to the pueblo. Buses run to Vera Playa and onto Carboneras further along the coast. Lots of properties for sale there but you have to put up with all the holiday makers in the summer.

Winter temperatures are less than the Canaries, normally this time they are around 20c but weather has been cold and wet over last 2 weeks and not looking to go above about 18c for next couple of weeks. Christmas day 2 years ago was wet and very windy, last year it got to 27c on Christmas day and into new year. Summer temps can get very hot July and August, last year just had a few days above 40c, year before was 40+ for a few weeks so it can vary.

Hope this helps you a bit and if you do come over, get in touch and maybe meet for a coffee somewhere.

Best wishes,

Tony and Karen.
