The big question will be where are you coming from and what passports do you hold?

Unless you are financially independent my advice would be to stay where you are until you retire.  Before Brexit things would have been pretty straightforward for you, but now in order to get residency you need to prove your income and without some sort of good pension I fear you would not qualify.

I have seen (even before Brexit) a number of young people come out thinking that their savings will last until they get a job only to find that jobs are not that easy to find and family and friends in the UK have had to pay their fare back home.  You may be a highly qualified builder but finding work here will not be easy as you will not have built up a reputation.  There are a lot of British people claiming to be builders, some are very good and others are complete cowboys!

Sorry to be so negative but I don't want your Spanish Dream to turn into a nightmare.

Hello

After brexit. You can not work for 5 years now unless you can work from home.  Blame brexit

Just a correction, if you are talking about the NLV, you cannot work. Full stop.  Not even from home.  It’s no remunerated employment of any kind whatsoever.

Spain are looking at bringing out a “Digital Nomad” Visa, which would allow income from computer based work from home, but that is still only in planning / discussion phase.

As it stands right now, no remunerated employment of any kind, type, way, shape or form is permitted for the first five years, on pain of having NLV cancelled if caught earning money.

It will help if you gave a good level of Spanish ( not just for work reasons). Please be aware that work is very hard to find and renumeration is a lot lower here. Also, resist the temptation to work for cash in hand ( ie. illegally) - the Spanish authorities are cracking down  on  this and the penalties, when caught  are severe. CaroleAnn has given excellent advice in her reply.
