Hi

Does anyone know about the Covenio Especial.  The Spanish Health Scheme.  We are interested in this as an alternative to Private Ex Pat Health Insurance.  My husband and  are looking to retire to Spain late this year early next and we have found that none of the private health insurances cover pre existing medical conditions and at our age we have a few between us!.  However the Convenio Especial costs about the same and does.  Anyone who can help shed some light on how we can get medical cover in Spain would be great to hear from you

As I understand it, Convenio Especial is being reintroduced into Andalucía (when PSOE manage to form government ..... IF PSOE manage to form government)

Not much known about it yet, but if memory serves, you couldn’t go straight on to the Convenio Especial ..... THAT may be either a poor memory or maybe requirements have changed, I’m really not certain.  You would need to speak to someone like C.A.B to get the full information on how you apply and what requirements are

Hi, we have just moved to Vera from the UK and are early retirees. You need to have been resident for a minimum 12 months in order to apply for convenio especial, so you will need to purchase 12 months private insurance to get your residencia. Unfortunately paying for12 months up front is an obligatory part of the application unless you are of either state retirement age or working and paying into Spanish system.

All the best with the move.

Thanks for clarification Juliet, I thought it was something like that but could not remember.

A caveat is that this applies only up until if/when Brexit occurs.
