Good morning my husband and I are hoping to move to Almeria as soon as our house is sold. We have been told that we will need health care insurance before we can become a resident. Can anyone recommend a good company that doesn't cost the earth. We have five years before we can retire on a UK pension.

Thanks

Hi both, we live over here already but both under pension age.  We shopped round (recommended) and found two companies that offered what we needed at lowest price for residencia purposes.  ASSA was the company we chose and my partner has and still is using them to cover doctors visits, X-rays, and various other hospital visits and there have been no issues whatsoever.  Think has an offer most of time to go up one level of cover at no extra cost.  Ours is around 72 euros a month I think but is higher the older you are so am guessing yours may be about 87 euros a month.  Think can get a joint one (may be cheaper) but we live apart so had to have individual policies.  Contact Carly, she is great and will give her price for gaining residency and insurance if needed :

If your Spanish is not good then I'd recommend someone like Carly otherwise it can be done without paying someone to assist.  If you contact her you are welcome to say Andy & Jane recommended you.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Hi Vic, no problem applying if under pension age as long as you can prove income or lump sum in a Spanish bank account.  Figures should still be the same as just before Christmas for a married couple you need to show a minimum of 8700 euros in an account.  Bank will do one or two papers to verify this for you to show you hold an account and to show the balance.  You also need to be on the padron of your local town hall, normally free and need printout of these each.  Proof of address here which if bought a place is no issue as will have the deeds.  There is a tax form which is 12 euros person.  Then of course the private health insurance proof which needs to be a receipt showing paid full 12 months in advance so ensure health policy compatible for residency applications.  Oh and of course you will needs NIE numbers which presume you also have.  Hope that helps!
