Depends where - in the larger cities, there may be staff members with some English.  In the smaller towns, very very very very unlikely

Welcome to my world. In 22 years of owning property in Mojacar and Torrevieja, I have never received a letter posted to me. Mind you my postbox has received letters for everybody else living in Mojacar Playa. Best of luck speaking in English to any member of Correos. I’ve only spent 18 years trying to discover my post code number. Not only that each member of the urbanisation are divided on which Calle we are living in.

Hey All,

I have to ask -Is finding an English speaker in a Spanish government service expected by people? This  in a country where Castilian Spanish is the official national language. What are the chances of finding a fluent Spanish speaker in a post office in  Leicester or Mullingar?

I have  found that if I use Google translate on my phone and have a few questions ready to ask in Spanish  the staff are most helpful. I have also, in a few cases, found some staff who attempted to talk to me in English. So with with my limited Spanish have been able to collect mail at the local Correos office.

Which leads me to the next question is it possible that you need to collect your mail from your local office? or arrange ot have it collected?

I ask this because when I was renting in  Javea  we had to go to the local office, in the old town of Xábia every couple of weeks to check for mail. The only thing that was delivered to us was either official mail e.g. from the ayuntamiento,  DGT or tax office you get the idea. Water bills and electricity were on the line so no paper

Which when I thought about it kind of makes sense, can you imagine the number of staff that would be need to deliver to the thousands of houses and apartments in the Mojacar area alone?

One other thing you can check is that you are using the right address.

Our house in Huéscar is listed with the town as one number but is a completely different one for the one the Correos has for us. Try Google maps and search for the address you have been using and see it it points to your gaff.

Hi Matthew, not sure what you mean by “ post code”? As you’re probably aware, unlike the Uk you don’t get a post code for your house. Our post code for example is 04810, which covers all of Partaloa it’s neighbouring villages right up to and including Oria. A strange system.

The bloke in Sorbas office speaks English .Jolly fellow. Postie delivers to our house, also tries English when we try Spanish . We have 4 house numbers, 1 for ayut, 1 for escritura, 1 on the wall, and another . We have 2 postcodes, Amazon refuses the main one. Post delivers, all couriers delivers, except Mrw (we now refuse to buy from anyone using them) find their way by house name or any of the 4 numbers. Modern Spain, way out in the sticks of a Barriada with 54 peeps in it (+2 Dutch, 2 Spanish and 2 Brits expected in the spring). 🌞🌞

I found it easier when living on the outskirts of Antas to do poste restante which meant that I just popped into the correos 1 a week to see if there was any mail

You will be pleased to know that Andalucia is recruiting 7,700 new postal service staff who speak English. I think that learning English will become more and more a national priority in the world of politics and business.
