I KNOW there are brits who do that. Makes one proud to be from England..........................NOT!!!!
My wife and I have been holidaying in Spain for upwards of 40 years, the overwhelming number of those trips have been to the Costa del Sol. We started out at Torremolinos because its very close indeed to Malaga Airport. That was when we encountered those "intellectuals" who wore union jack shorts and thought that drinking 10 pints of San Miguel with breakfast was required.
We have gradually moved our holiday destinations further and further west to escape even the potential of association with these charming people. For probably the last 20 years, we have headed straight down the coast to either Manilva or Estepona. What we call "the posh end of the costa." It's an absolute doddle of a journey using the toll road and its worth every single cent.
it was during these holidays that we fell in love with Spain and discovered how warm, charming and friendly the Spaniards are towards people who display simple good manners and even more so when any attempt is made to speak Spanish. Therefore, I could say that it would make our lives easier if we get to speak Spanish, and that would be true. However, for me it's a matter of respect for the people who we will encounter in our new home. Sounds a bit soapy, I know, but I genuinely mean every word.
