.... I failed English at school. Miserably - I believe I got an O level D - which I understand means “dunce”
I later in life discovered I enjoyed some English literature, and was fascinated as to the origin of the language itself. I began listening to lectures from “The Great Courses” on the origins of language in general and English in particular (boy ... do I have some comebacks for anyone who says they speak “proper” English 😂😂) and around that time decided to move to Spain.
I thence discovered the joy of the Spanish language, it’s richness and variety - and it’s idioms; so I began learning and also studying the foundation of the language - where and how it was born and of course it’s structure - the grammar.
Computer nerds not being in great need down these parts, I also studied for a TEFL qualification so I could teach English; a lot of the deeper and more complex grammar names of English parts still challenge me .... but I progress. And I now teach English as a second language to a few students, some of whom are starting on this long and arduous journey and speak no English...... having some knowledge of Spanish and it’s structure therefore becomes somewhat necessary .....
