Do the move without a car? Well … nothings impossible … but you will certainly struggle without your own transport.

As you’ve noted, Vera is the hub for buses and you’ll need to change at Vera to get to Vera Playa / Mojácar / Garrucha.  It’s no issue obviously getting a moving firm to take whatever items your bringing to your new home - but you’ll need to be there as well and without a car you ar...

Thanks Dario....Yes, .I would imagine it would be difficult with a car....I have no problem either hiring a car occasionally or buying one over there...I just didn't fancy bringing mine over and getting the plates done.    I would imagine that for the first couple of months we would be pottering between Mojarca/Playa/Vera/Garrucga just to find our feet and try to meet people....do you think that might be possible on local buses. ?

Yep - derfinitely possible.  Theres a good bus service between Mojácar / Garrucha / Vera Playa / Vera, but as already mentioned here, it only runs once an hour.  You CAN get around those 4 places by bus though.

Thanks for your response....Its difficult to get an objective view by just looking at websites or even youtube.....I have just retired and am realistic about what to expect from Spain, we have been lots of times but it will be totally different living there, I know that.

What we need is to wake up in the sun and feel more alive and not just existing from month to month, we are both outgoing and are young for our age...but we are looking for a different lifestyle...we have lived in the counrty for the past 20 yrs, but we now would like some people around us and be...

... able to meets different people, so we don't want a " holiday or part time town" that is dead in the winter.

We are trying to avoid expat enclaves but it would be nice to meet some Brits to get to know the ropes...we will rent fist for 6-9 months.

We have recently come back from Almeria and Murcia but didn't have time to get to down to Vera/Majocar... the other thing is we hope not to bring a car...so decent public transport links is a must.

thanks and regards...

If you don't want to be in an enclave full of UL immigrants then I would suggest you avoid Mojacar, Turre and Vera Playa. Vera Pueblo, Garrucha or possibly Villaricos, sound like they would be  more along the lines if what you are looking for. I'd suggest you start learning Spanish now. Good luck with your search.

I live in Turre a typically Spanish town which is very compact with all you need. It is a 10 minute drive from Mojacar. Worth a look at when  you are in the area.

*cough* Ahem ... Turre a "typically Spanish town"? ... the only place with more British migrants than Turre would be Albox!!

Thanks Susi..I hear you...On reflection we have to give ourselves the best chance of meeting people so we don't feel isolated. This is only going to be a winter rental so anywhere would be good.   Maybe to throw ourseves in Mojacar woul'nt be such a bad thing !

Oh and yes....we are learing Spanish.

The buses from Vera to Mojacar run all year round but only every hour and finish around 9.30 / 10.00 pm depending on where you get on. From end of June to early September they run much later but again only one an hour. From Vera bus station you can get almost anywhere by changing at bigger statio...

...ns. For example I have been from Vera to Valencia changing buses in Murcia, Vera to Malaga changing in Almeria and so forth. Vera Playa is much quieter in the winter than Mojacar but still bars and restaurants open. I love Mojacar but like Dario will avoid it like the plague from now until September. The price of property both rental and purchase is cheaper on VP than Mojacar. I would rent in both places so can compare, before you decide.

Thanks Jas for your answer....navingating by bus is not my favourite sport but if may be necessary in the short term as I don't really want to bring the car,  I will buy a motor after a few months.    I am trying to work out where we can get an apartment where we can easily get a local buses without a mile walk to a bus stop.   I can imagine us pottering around Mojacar/Vera and Garrucha for the first couple of months anyway.
