Please can somebody advise
I am English 72 years old resident in Spain holding a French driving license.
I am looking to rent a car in the UK but have been informed by Europcar that I need an International driving permit.
Please does any one know how I would go about this.

check on Gov.uk for info on driving in UK on foreign licences. Some hire companies are saying you need one and some don't so try another hire company.

That is strange, I am Spanish resident uk passport holder when we visit uk always hire a car they always accept the Spanish driving licence never ask for a driving permit

We have regularly hired in the UK using Spanish licences. Never been asked for an IDP but … as I’m over 70 some car hire companies won’t hire to me - so my wife has to do the driving. Or we have to pay more. Bonkers, I know.

I have used Europcar in the UK recently and their website confirms they do not require an International Driving Licence if your non UK licence is in Latin characters. Your French licence (and my Spanish licence) are in Latin characters as opposed to Chinese,Russian, Indian etc etc. Hope this helps.
