You should have a cable running from the receiver on the dish, can you see your dish ?, this should feed into the house thru an outside wall which will or should go thru to the wall socket your tv will plug into. If you have a tv guide you can check whats on satellite and tune your tv in accordingly.

If you dont get a signal or programmes of any kind then you may have to get a tv engineer to check everything and possibly run a new cable.

What programmes you can get will depend on the size of the dish, size really does matter !!, anything bigger diameter than 1.6 metres should be ok to get most stations and programmes.

Hope that helps in some small way.

We can’t see the cable as it comes in through the roof and through the walls. We can plug the satalite cable in and get some programmes but not many.  We think the dish is pointing the wrong way but don’t want to move it if it is not ours.  My son in law could test it if he had the tools that could tell him if is connected but he didn’t think he would need them on holiday.  Thanks though

Hi Chappers,

If you're getting some programs then it's obviously connected.

If you are getting mainly German programs, and BBC World, then the dish is pointing at Astra1.

If you are hoping to get English programs then you can just about forget it. Since they moved them onto another satellite, reception is very difficult here. You would need a BIG dish. The internet is the way a lot of people are going these days.
