Hi . We have decided to take the leap and looking into renting in this village . Are there many expats here ? Is it easy to find work in the area.? We don't want to sit around all day . Although tempting! I work from home in the UK but could I do it here ? My husband works for the electricity on the roads in Scotland. We both have bar experience. Hellllp. So nervous xx

Don't Panic!
Have you come over and looked at the area yet? If not then come on holiday / viewing trip for a couple of weeks and look at some areas. There are many things to consider but the best way you can do that is by talking to some estate agents / rental agents and deciding what is best for you.
RENTING is definitely the way to go for at least 6 months. It is money well spent and if possible rent through a winter so you can discover that it actually does get cold in Spain.
I cant help with the VELEZ RUBIO / VELEZ BLANCO areas as I am based nearer to Albox. I am sure you will get many more helpful replies. Look forward to hearing from you soon on the forum. Happy to answer any other queries you have.

Hi . Thanks for the advice . We are coming over in November/ December time to get a feel for the place . Does the area have bad winters ? Not that we mind too much. We have been in touch with a local rental agent who has been very helpful and who is in talks with the owner about the property we have found for rent . Luckily it has heating 😊. My husband is working in Scotland until late November so it gives me a little time to polish up on my basic Spanish! I will certainly be coming back to the forum with more questions !

Hi
We live just outside of Velez Rubio so very familiar with the town. Its a lovely little town and the spanish people are lovely too. There are quite alot of expats here now, more so in the campo, like us.
As Paul said, the winters are cold. We usually find it freezing first thing, then as soon as the sun pops out, it can be very warm but as soon as the sun disappears the temperature plummits. Its the wind more than anything. Being in the moutains we are prone to it. Having said that, the winters are short and if you have heating, you should be ok. Also, if you are renting in the town, you will be more sheltered. Velez Rubio is more protected than Velez Blanco.
Its very tranquil here, definately less stressful than the UK! Work could be an issue though. Even the spanish here say there is no work. We keep ourselves busy running a farm. We have an almond plantation and lots of poultry. We were hoping to start a business with our farm but finding it difficult. There maybe barwork here, but you need to be able to speak quite a bit of spanish as hardly any spanish here speak english. If you are living here, you can have free spanish lessons and I can put you in touch with the teacher who runs the classes if you are interested. We have spanish twice a week but are still on school summer holiday at the moment. We should be starting some time this month.

Hi sarah . Thank you for your info . I have started some Spanish lessons and took some at school but very rusty . I would be interested in Spanish lessons thank you . I've done a lot of bar work in my past. It's just really to stop me getting bored. I work from home in the UK and would like to continue when I am over there. Just wanted a back up . My partner is a cable layer for the electricity so I think he would struggle to find work . As for the cold we've lived in Scotland for a while through a winter so we should be used to it . Looking forward to moving if a little nervous

Hi Emma
If you lived in Scotland then winter will definately not be a problem for you. I know what you mean being nervous. Its a big step, but there are lots of people here willing to help. We have spanish neighbours and they have been lovely. We help each other and have learnt lots of spanish from them. We dont need to farm but we do it because we are not ready to do nothing yet.....
Internet has got big out here with more and more service providers popping up so maybe your husband could go down that route (installations).
Anyway, the spanish classes are in the school of music in Calle Carmen. The teacher's name is Nuria and her work email address is [email protected] She is fluent in english. I don't know if she will answer right away as it is her work email and classes haven't restarted yet.
Best of luck and hope it all goes well for you. If you need anymore advice, you can private message me. I don't go on here very often so it just so happened I saw your message. (usually busy with the animals) ;-)

Hi
Nuria emailed back and we have started the classes, thanks.
Re. the yoga classes, could you tell where they are held in Velez Rubio and do you have a name, or a contact number or e mail?
Thanks
