It is the service under which we can make payments to the Spanish health service and get healthcare (similar to National
Insurance contributions in the UK), once you have residencia.

Many thanks. I haven't heard of it before. However as we are pensioners we are already on the social security system . So it does not apply to us.

Short answer - you can’t. Convenio Especial is not available in Andalucía and is being withdrawn in other areas as well.

An update to this. I see of recent that the PSOE, (if Pedro Sánchez manages to gain investiture in September ...) has stated that Convenio Especial is to be reintroduced .... stay tuned
